UC Berkeley Letter of Recommendation 2021

@adjebroun You self reported scores. They go off of that. They trust self reported is the same as official. Cause otherwise when your officials come in then there is trouble lol

@10s4life okay :)))) Thanks!

It says on the UC Berkeley portal, “Note: Use your recommender’s institutional or corporate email address. Submissions from anonymous email addresses (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) may be subject to additional review.”

However, my teacher (who is writing me a rec letter) just recently retired, and only has a gmail.
What should I do about this?

I don’t know if this helps anyone trying to predict who gets sent LOR requests – since I guess the general consensus is that the requests for them are random, – but I turned in my UC app on 11/26/16, got the link to the portal 11/28/16, and was just today (12/8/16) asked to get LORs. I would assume that they look over your app at least a little bit before asking you for LOR, but I don’t know how the admissions office works hahaha.
My GPA is 4.18 (w) and 3.91 (uw) and my ACT is 34 and I applied L&S CS. Hope this helps! Good luck to everyone applying!

I got mine today 12/8, In State
My UW GPA is only 4.25 1400 SAT 30 ACT
Im pretty sure I applied for a physics major, so I’m pretty sure I’m borderline here (math and science were only 32 &30). Only thing I have is strong ECs and leadership tbh. I’m very well rounded student capable of doing alot, and I put that in my Essays.

I received a LOR request email yesterday. I submitted my application the second week of November. My SAT is 1380 (low for UCB) and my UC GPA is around 4.1. I’m also out of state. I applied just for the heck of it, I don’t really expect to get in.

I got a LOR request a few days ago and sent my requests to my teacher and counselor yesterday.
My UC GPA is a 4.03 and I applied to the Film Studies program. My ACT composite is a 32.
I’m wondering if this means we’re all borderline or if it’s just random. I’m nervous and excited at the same time!

what if I only send 1 LOR (from a teacher)? would that harm my application in any way?

I wouldn’t think so.
Any letter of rec would help.
If you can, I would maybe try to get a second one. But I think as long as you have one, you’re alright.

@WJShipp @ihatethis123 If you received a request you should prob send in two. This is your opportunity to show demonstrated interest.

I didn’t receive a LOR request. My UC GPA is 4.46 and my ACT is 33. I hope LOR requiest is random because I am starting to get anxious :((

I don’t think it’s random, it would make no sense to ask for letters from people for sure accepted or rejected. It definitely goes to borderline applicants. Although your stats are way above average, you may be considered borderline bc of your major. Engineering and the sciences are by far the most impacted and difficult to get in to. Berkeleys acceptance rate is 18%, but in sciences, it’s probably half of that.

I was sent a LOR and my ACT’s 35 and UC GPA 4.59, but my major is biology which is probably why I am borderline. There are many unknown factors in play like EC’s and if your a recruited athlete/musician/etc or not. Say you majored in English, and you probably would get in easily with lower scores etc.

Hmmm, what was interesting though was that only 7% of ppl w/o LOR request got in last year but 33% of ppl sent a LOR request did get in last year. Good luck to yall and hopefully you’ll be on the Berkeley results thread as accepted

Does anyone know the last day for LORs to go out? My D applied on 11/29, got UCB portal login, but has not received the LOR request yet.

@CaliDad2017 Per previous post, UCB will send out the last batch of emails for LoR by Dec. 15th. Good luck!

I asked for an augmented review in my UC apps thinking it was universal for each UC. I’m now starting to realize it may be only for Berkeley and are only LOR. Could this effect my chances on getting in?

Jose Lee, I’m almost positive UC Berkeley doesn’t admit by major. You just get admitted to the College of Letters and Sciences. I’m sure in the College of Engineering, for example, your major matters, but I don’t think applying to biology is any more competitive than other majors.

@SillyJillie423 you are correct. Applying to the college of L&S means you apply to the school not a major. The odds are the same for everyone. You must get a certain GPA in pre reqs to declare the major.

Hi everyone - I’m a freshman at Berkeley who got in early with Regents and was asked for a letter of rec. I think I would say overall that it seems like they send the letters if they’re either on the fence about you getting in or on the fence about you getting regents. I have friends with more average Cal stats who got in who weren’t asked and friends with borderline stats who were asked who didn’t get in. Most of the regents scholars I know did get asked for letters of rec. Honestly, though, I’m still pretty doubtful that there’s any major rhyme or reason to them and would not worry too much one way or the other. Good luck

@captainswan , what is the process for Regents? Is there an interview or anything? And when do they notify you?

Is it better to send the recommendations both from subject teachers, or one from subject teacher and another arts teacher?
