UC Berkeley Polisci Transfer Taking Questions

Thank you for writing so much! That’s really helpful. I’m definitely going to be checking out everything I can do during summer if I get in (I live in the bay area, so I can go visit easily). I’ve never been passive, so it’s good to know it’ll give me a leg up.

I actually have to switch one of my non-IGETC, non-major req classes for spring (they aren’t offering it) so it’s good to know it’s not a big deal.

I will have the pre reqs done by the end of spring if that makes any difference,or should i have had them done by fall?

I wont have anything missing if i take spring quarter into consideration. Are you saying its bad in a sense to have pre reqs missing all together or if is it bad to even have them In Progress because i finish all my pre reqs by spring.

^ I’m in the same boat, actually…I’m finishing one last prereq for Berkeley this quarter, and one last one for LA in spring. I thought they took that into account, seeing as we list it on our UC app…I don’t think it’s possible to finish all of them within 4 quarters/3 semesters, for people who apply after only a year at cc. Surely they don’t expect that…

It’s bad to not have pre-requisites completed before you attend the school. If you’re completing them right now (or next quarter, however your school works) you’re fine.

Yes, this is how I understand it. but backlogging all of your pre-reqs to the final semester doesn’t look too great. If you have one or two left and you will get them done the spring before you transfer, they will probably hit you with a conditional admittance.

Just a question, does berkeley emphasize that all general education requirements must be completed by Spring? I have two more to take next quarter and I will be done. I finished all my major pre-reqs last Fall. Also, if about 1/3 of your units you are transferring over are AP units will they look down at that? Since it doesn’t appear that I have that many grades to show, but I will have 100+ units by the end of Spring. Thanks!

Yeah, your units don’t matter as long as they are all from a CCC, the thing is, they will only count 80 of them I think. I forget what the number is. Just watch for the unit ceiling during your stay. AP units don’t count for anything unless you want them to.
If your prereqs are done and you only have two more IGETC courses left, and they will both be completed in the spring, you will be fine. Remember this is me going by how things were two years ago YMMV

I’m actually trying to transfer from another UC to UCB, I guess that’s why it’s a little different and more difficult. Do you know anyone who successfully transferred to Cal from another UC?

^Yes. I know a couple that got into all UC’s for Fall 2011 from UCR. They were bio majors though.

Wait, you are trying to transfer from another UC with over 100 units? Is such a thing even possible? How many of those are AP units?

^I think she means over 100 quarter units. I think the limit for quarter units is 90-135?

I will have 100 quarter units by the end of Winter quarter. 32 of those are AP units.

I got into UCLA as a freshman but my dream school is UCBerkeley, which rejected me :frowning:
I am wondering the chance for me to transfer from UCLA to UCB after my freshman year if I have a high GPA at UCLA?? My intended major is applied math.

Thank you!

UCB doesn’t take sophomore transfers.
