thanks rider…ur comments rlly help me a lot. it’s just i don’t understand why ppl with some high stats (high enough to be qualified for berkeley) gets it…nd i read the prior discussion also nd to me, it just seemed lyk ppl with high stats got in…maybe it’s cuz i’m nervous? haha i’ll just have to wait. thanks a lot tho!

Know of one person currently attending Cal who had a UC GPA of 3.57 and SATS of 1950, received the talent supplemental and was offered a Fall spot. Not saying this is an extreme, either, it is just one data point based on a person whose numbers I could check.

rider, how big was their talent? like they publish a book or were they internationally recognized in their sport?

oh thanks rider. but SAT 1950s and SAT around 3.56 doesn’t seem too bad. you’re right. it’s not extreme but my SAT is pretty low even though GPA is pretty decent. did you attend berkeley? it seems lyk you kno a lot about it (=

Ok I am having a mini-heart attack as of right now. I misspelled Berkeley as Berkely on my supplemental questionnaire I want to think that its not a big deal but in these days the nitty gritty details matter sooo much! How bad will this hurt my application??? urghhh :

^It wil look liek you cant spelll

i kno this is kinda out of the topic but did everyone get the UC Berkeley’s request to apply for the leadership award scholarship yet? are we all suppose to fill this out even tho it’s not guaranteed that we’ll get in cuz it asks you to write several essays…i kno it’s beneficial for me in future reference just in case but it’s very time consuming…=(

^Yeah fill it out, you might get in but besides that crucial reasoning why you should, think about it, this is a university where a lot of kids are GOING to apply, and you have to work hard because they will definitly work hard. If you cannot afford to give up a couple of hours to write three short essays, how will you survive at a school where people give hours and hours of time to just studying? Be the kind of person Berkeley would be proud to have, be the kind of person that upholds the essence of a prestigous institution of higher education. Do the Leadership Scholarship but not ONLY because you might get in, but because you are the hard-working, dedicated student Berkeley or any other University would want to have, who dedicates time and thought to this ideal.

this scholarship is only for US students right?.. not for international students?

thanks for your considering reply…just out of curiousity my friend was requested to send a midyear report for USC…is this like the UC Berkeley’s borderline process too? do they only ask thsoe students who are in borderline?

does your application for this scholarship affect the admission decision?

AkshayM, no the scholarship is handled by the Alumni Association and has no impact on your admission status.

purplecandy, USC and other private colleges generally request mid-year reports for all applicants to assess their senior year performance. This is standard practice and not an augmented review like the supplemental questionnaire.

Well, USC on their web site lists the midyear grade report as an optional request they will issue to a limited number of applicants, so in this case it is not standard like most schools.

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/faq/admission_process.html and see the fourth item, will my senior year grades be considered?

thank you MsSun and Rider for your replies. My friend and I already called the office to confirm that they don’t request it from everyone because it depends on the case although students may submit it if they want to. My counselor told my friend that it means they already went through the application distinguishing who they want to consider and who they want to reject and those who were formally requested to submit the 1st semester grades mean they are considering you.

Except if you are not asked, it does not mean they rejected you. The huge majority of those accepted by Cal never get the request. It is for a small fraction who have to fill it out.

thanks rider

Does anyone know when we hear back if we were supplemented? Is it the same for everybody Mid-March or is it something different…

Same date as everyone, but Cal releases decisions late in the month, the last of the UCs to do so.

thanks :/-such a long wait…

It is traditional for everyone to get a bit crazy this month as they wait for most college results - hoards of users log on and post stuff in the final weeks, including countdowns, crazy rumors about omens and signs that give early knowledge of the decision, and sometimes talk about other acceptances or decisions they need to make.
