I applied to UC Berkeley’s College of Natural Resource (CNR) under the major Environmental Economics and Policy. I will be posting my stats here but I will also be posting my stats on this thread I made specifically for this college to make it easier for future transfer students!

What do you think my chances are of getting in? I will have all prerequisites for the psych department finished by Spring. My transferable GPA is a 3.9 while Prerequisite GPA is a 4.0 with 3 In Progress. Extra curricular activities include Student Government, AGS Honor Society, and work 24 hours a week. I am also low income, first generation, Hispanic, former foster youth, and I worked on personal statements with a Berkeley admission officer (they are strong).

I am excited for decisions and nervous at the same time! I’m a history major with a 3.82, one last pre req in progress, an ok essay, and a few ECs. Wonder what my odds are since it is history.

Engineering transfer yay! I only did 1 year of community college after high school tho. Somehow that was enough to get me through all the prereqs with a 3.8. heh. we’ll see how it goes. :)

Here’s my strange case:
I studied one year in a four-year-university in my home country (Macau) as Economics major, didn’t like it, so I left and come to US to study in a CCC for 2 years, preparing for psychology major.

I put my one year of university coursework (36 units, GPA 3.2, not sure if they are uc-transferable, didn’t set up evaluation appointment with Cal Admission) and my CCC coursework (45 units completed with all A’s and Pass plus 16 in progress, total 61 uc-transferable units) on the UC application … But in myberkeleyapp I only put my CCC coursework for pre-req and IGETC, as per the instruction.

So do the folks at Cal only look at what I put on myberkeleyapp? Or will they automatically assume my international coursework is UC-Transferable too, and drag down my GPA? Because that’s what happened for me with UC Davis (accepted though), but that’ll certainly hurt my chance for Cal (3.X instead of a perfect 4.0)…

I know it’s water under the bridge now but can someone please clear this up for me? Thanks!!

Dang, I thought I was so unique, and now your post just made me not so special at all My case is almost identical to yours, 1 year in a 4-year university in home country (Hong Kong, which is right next to yours), got 34 not-sure-if-UC-Transferable units with a GPA of 2.48. Then, in CCC, I accumulated a total of 70 UC-transferable units and got a perfect CCC GPA of 4.0.

Anyway, regarding your question, according to the admission staff @ Cal and counselor @ my CCC, those folks will look at your oversea coursework one by one and then determine which one of them are UC-transferable. Rule of thumb is, if any of the UCs offer a similar course, then it counts; however, English classes taken in countries where English is not their first language often times will not be UC-transferable.

Transfer Student From Florida Community College

GPA: 4.0

Pre-Reqs: All completed

Extra-Curriculars: Vice Prez SGA; Paid math/chemistry/physics tutor at my college; Worked within a group of engineering students that submitted a project proposal to NASA’s reduced gravity aircraft; Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society; Math Olympics Club

Internship: Paid position at the Renewable Corporation assisting engineers in the synthesis and testing of nanotech coatings for medical applications.

Community Service: Served at St Paul of the Cross Church-prepared and delivered boxed meals to South Florida’s migrant worker community (56 hrs); Palm Beach County School District- Lectured students regarding the consequences of driving under the influence (48 hrs);

Awards: Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Award for students displaying exemplary community service and leadership initiative; multiple scholarships awarded; presidents list for 4.0 GPA twice

Hooks: first generation college student

Catch: I have 8 withdrawals from screwing around in the past, and a felony with jail time for a DUI that I had to explain.

Honestly, this could go either way. My essays are really good and written almost as an explanation as to what happened early in my life with drug/alcohol addiction, and how I withdrew from college because I was not ready at the time. In addition, I originally put that I had 2 F’s and no internship and no MLK award because that was my status in November last year. But I updated with the TUA in January that I had appealed and had the two F’s on my transcript deleted and replaced with W’s, now reflecting a 4.0 and that I had secured the internship and won the award. It may confuse the admissions committee- I’m hoping it doesn’t.

***Everyone, good luck. April 26 can not come soon enough!!! Any other Chem E majors out there?

Hey guys, I also have coursework from an international 4-year university. However, I have A LOT of units which made me ineligible for most UCs. I applied to haas, though, and they don’t care about unit max. Where are you guys applying? I’m from Dvc, too.
