UC Berkeley Transfer Waitlist Fall 2019 Thread

there is no limit for credits for UCs - you could take 500 credits and still be eligible. UCs will only transfer 70 semester credits (105 quarter), the others become subject credits.

3.73 (attended top 25 ranked 4 year institution). I applied to Economics at Berkeley. half the reason i wanted to go to school was for the college experience. its too late to get that. i’m already 22, will be 23 next year. The value of going back to school goes down each year. this was my last shot at it.

this is the end. thanks everyone for being a part of this journey. but this is the end of college for me.

@ucberkeley2019 I don’t think age is something that is extremely important. We keep studying every day, even in college or in real life. One friend I know at the UC Davis Aggie Transfer Scholar Weekend last year, who has been in community college for 6 years, got accepted to Davis this year for Mathematics major. I don’t think you won’t be able to get to a place. Maybe you’re dreaming about big schools and it’s good, but you should also have a backup too. Please don’t give up hope. College experience is important but as long as you actually want a degree then there are excessive chances for you to do so.

Anyone think that this might be a mistake, how can there be no space for every major.

@dpeng72 Everyone here does hope so my friend :relieved: Someone please call them tomorrow cuz I will be in class until 1pm + work…I would like to see what they would say to justify…

I will call them, I just want to confirm. So I don’t seem nonsense at all when I call.

@dpeng72 thank you!!! Please let us know after you call, I’d highly appreciate it! Congrats again on your UCLA acceptance. I read the UCLA Waitlist Thread too, they seem to be more professional than Berkeley this time…

@ucberkeley2019 I got in UCLA, UCI, UCR this year (found out that based on the contract between CCC and Haas school, my English 1C was not counted as the second required English course so that’s why I did not appeal for Berkeley). I actually logged in just to tell you that you can take more classes from CCC if you want. I had over 100 units by Spring 2019 and just graduated with ~123 units.

But maybe go to work and volunteer can help you with improving your extracurriculars better.

Updated: I just got a reply from my friend. He said according to his counseling service, Berkeley didn’t even bother to do the waitlist/appeal process since they over-enrolled through regular admissions

That’s like the biggest joke ever…

Amazing ?

That’s incorrect!! I spoke to admissions a few days ago and basically as long as you’re in CC then you’re still “lower division” standing so you can have 100+ credits and you’re still in the same pool as everyone. Me, for example, I have 115 credits bc I did part of HS also at CC but they don’t fare bc once you get accepted then they’ll adjust the credits on their system.

I have 4.0GPA and done with every requirements for CS and IGETC. I am wondering if I should stay one more year in CCC. I have spent two years taking 94units. I SIR’d for UCI for CS major, and waitlisted for UCLA for CS major. I would like to go to graduate school after I get B.S degree. Should I stay one more year to get into UCB or UCLA? Or just go to UCI CS?any advice plz?

Hi@uclacsjhah. We are on the same boat. I also kept my GPA as 4.0 for 2.5 years and finished all of requirements and IGETC. I applied as ECON major for UCB, BUS/ECON for UCLA and I was on the waitlist for both of UCLA and UC Berkeley. ( eventually I just got my rejected mail from Berkeley today:((). I did an internship and a volunteer work for whole summer. I also worked as a tutor and club officer in my CC. I am also wondering if it will be better to stay one more year here or just move on to next collage. To go to UCB is my dream and it was just the reason I came here to study from my country. So I just feel so hard to give up. However, I don’t know how I can improve my resume since I did almost all of things in my collage. I also hope I can go to graduate school after I get BS. Should I stay one more year or just go to my next collage?? Any advice plz!!!

My friend who was waitlisted received an email notifying his rejection as well.

He applied under Social Welfare and GPA between 3.0 and 3.3

For context here - if Berkeley hadn’t over admitted then some of those who were admitted would have also been on the waitlist and may have been ranked higher than we are so perhaps we wouldn’t have been accepted anyway, right? It’s doesn’t take away from the resentment I feel for not letting us know that they wouldn’t use the waitlist but we probably wouldn’t have gotten in any way…we might not have made the waitlist…

@Tillamookie sign but I’d rather get rejected at the beginning than spending time days after days waiting for a decision from a list that nobody at the admission bothers to look at
I just want to be treated as a human being, not as a joke

I couldn’t agree more!

And to add insult to injury, I think Berkeley had a good idea after April 19th how many enrollees they would have. I bet they got a lot of SIR’s immediately and this makes it harder to accept that they kept us waiting for so long.

Yeah waiting for a whole month just to get the fact that they haven’t touched it and won’t even bother to look at it, yet it took them so long to send the rejection while they should all acknowledge that the housing deadline for a lot of UCs was coming and students would be struggling to whether they should apply or not
Great, Berkeley. That’s great
