Questions:

Major: Pre-Psychology

GPA: 3.83

Major Prep Complete: Yes

Extracurricular(s): AFS (Foreign Exchange Student), EMT School, SI Leader (Chemistry), AGS Board Member (x2 semesters)

TAP: YES

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted:

  1. C in Statistics (Major Prep Course)
  2. 3 W’s,
  3. Repeated History course.

First Generation Student: No

Additional Info: Took one upper division psych course at UCLA Extension, was hoping this would show the admissions committee my commitment to the major.

Questions:

  1. Wondering if COVID-19 will improve our chances for admission?
  2. Does anyone know if there are online statistics regarding waitlisted transfers?

Hi all. I was shocked that I got waitlisted, tbh. I was denied from UCSD minutes earlier.

Major: Pre-psychobiology

Major Prep: Missing 1 quarter of bio that I never got a chance to take since I left UCR after 1 year. There was no equivalent at my CCC.

IGETC: Done in Fall 2019.

GPA: 3.68 (between UCR/CCC)

Extracurricular(s):

Worked with the UCR newspaper my first year there
Lifeguarding during the summers (prob. not gonna happen this year lol)
Lead singer for my church choir
Also was a TA for teen religious classes at my church.

TAP: No

Opt-in/Opt-out: opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted:
In my last quarter at UCR, I got a C+ in a major pre-req, and all other pre-reqs were A’s/B’s/AP Credit. I literally thought that C+ killed my application until I got into UC Berkeley, so it led me to believe that my essays at least earned me a waitlist spot.

Additional Info:
I have no idea how to write the optional statement. Anyone have tips for where to start?

Major: Pre-psychology :^)
GPA: 3.77*
Major Prep Complete: Yes, taking calc, bio 2, and chem 2 rn
Extracurricular(s): mentioned my presidential roles in HS, hospital volunteering, currently work 20+ hours, deaf club member, campus organization leader, etc.
TAP: No
Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-In

Reasons you may have been waitlisted:
-Bio I&II are required for transfer, and since Bio I=IP I think that may have hurt me.
-My transcript consisted of three colleges in total (messy).
-I went to a private college freshman year (A-=3.8) so although my courses transfer, they aren’t like CC->UC type classes. .
-My GPA is below the 3.8-4.0 Psych admit average, but no C’s or W’s.

*Taken from UCD’s evaluation of my transcript.

Major: Business Econ

GPA: 3.79

Major Prep Complete: 2 in progress

Extracurricular(s): x2 board roles in clubs at my college, various volunteer work, currently work 2 jobs, etc

TAP: Yes

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted: Highly competitive major with in-progress classes

Questions: Any ideas on what to do for the supplemental/written part for the waitlist? Also, when do you think we will start being notified for the waitlist?

Major: Political Science

GPA: 3.65

Major Prep Complete: yes

Reasons you may have been waitlisted: 2 repeated courses, 2 W’s, no extracurriculars, GPA under 25-75th percentile of admits for Poli Sci

First Generation Student: yes

Additional Info: I am convinced I was still offered a spot on the waitlist because my essays were rather strong. I spent 5 months on them. I went really deep and wrote about what’s most personal to me (e.g. my poetry) and how I can use my talents to give back to my community and society as a whole. I basically wrote about myself, but made sure I expressed how passionate I am about sharing what I know.

Questions: I wonder how many students get in from the waitlist…?

Major: Business Economics

GPA: 3.74

Major Prep Complete: 2 in progress

Extracurricular(s):
High school: Team Captain of the frosh/soph volleyball team, CSF President, NHS Treasurer, School Newspaper Business Manager, Senior of the Month
College: work 15 hours per week, Honors Program Student Council Fundraising Coordinator

TAP: Yes

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted:

  1. 2 W’s
  2. Low GPA for my major
  3. 2 in-progress classes
  4. Nothing special about my essays

First Generation Student: No

Additional Info:
I honestly am surprised that I even got waitlisted, I feel like my application was so average.

Questions:

  1. I wonder how many other people are on the waitlist?

Major: Pre-Psychology, 2nd was CogSci
GPA: 3.82
Major Prep Complete: 3 classes still in progress
Extracurricular(s): Working part-time, Honors courses, UVSA Intern, HS Varsity Swim, HS FBLA State Champion, founded HS VSA, completed IBMYP in HS, was in IBDP but graduated early at end of junior year, top 1% in HS (4.78W/3.89UW, 14th out of 700+, could’ve moved up to sal if I stayed for senior year), UCR DNA Barcoding Challenge
TAP: Yes
Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in
Reasons you may have been waitlisted:
1. Major prep still in progress
2. First year transfer
First Generation Student: No
Additional Info: None
Questions:

  1. I feel like I would’ve gotten in if I were a high school senior applicant for class of ‘24, which I would’ve been a part of if I didn’t leave HS early :’(

Major: Physiological Science

GPA: 3.0

Major Prep Complete: Yes, by spring 2020

Extracurricular(s): EMT certified through UCLA’s CPC, worked 2 jobs.

TAP: Nope, I’m transferring from UCSC. I did finish my GE’s there so I will be getting a letter of reciprocity.

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted:
-D (repeated C+) and F (repeated B) grades from freshman year
-low GPA (I thought the cut off was a 3.2??? I didn’t notice till after I applied and for sure thought I would get denied)

First Generation Student: No, my sister attended UCR.

Additional Info: I’m very surprised that I was waitlisted but I think it was due to my straight A’s I got in Winter 2020 and my strong personal essays. Getting EMT certified through their Center for Prehospital Care might have helped too?

Questions: I don’t really know what I should include in the waitlist statement? I feel like they know everything that would help them make the decision to admit me or not. I don’t really have much more to add other than ACCEPT ME PLEASE

Major: Computer Science

GPA: 4.00

Major Prep Complete:
All required and recommended coursework is complete except for 2 in progress.

Extracurricular(s):

  • Coordinator in college engineering club
  • editor for college’s literary journal
  • 2 honors research conferences
  • research abstract published
  • active volunteer at local senior center

TAP: Yes

Opt-in/Opt-out: In

Reasons you may have been waitlisted: Maybe the 2 IP classes

First Generation Student: No

Additional Info:
I’m disappointed I got waitlisted, but it is what it is. I understand CS is a competitive major but I know people who got into the major at UCLA with less than stellar applications, so I’m just disappointed and confused.

Questions:

  1. Is UCLA being particularly selective this year? I don’t think acceptance rates were this low in previous transfer classes.
  2. Since I’m TAP certified, am I being waitlisted for my first choice or second choice major? The decision letter does not specify.

Major: Geography

GPA: 3.2

Major Prep Complete: Complete in Spring 2020

Extracurricular(s): Near full time job of 30-35 hours a week on top of CC school work

TAP: No

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted:

  • Lower range GPA in my major

First Generation Student: Yes

Additional Info:
I have a feeling me being waitlisted was a result of my GPA, a friend of mine got in with Geography/Environmental studies which was more impacted than mine but likely had a higher GPA since they don’t work but I do.

Questions: Does anyone have any tips for the waitlist additional information entry? I’m attempting to formulate a strong one as this is my top choice, but I was also waitlisted at my other choices as well.

Major: Nursing

GPA: 3.94

Major Prep Complete: All except one course which isn’t offered at my CCC (Molecular biology)

Extracurricular(s): 100+ volunteer hours at hospital, 100+ clinical hours from a CNA program, active CNA license

TAP: No

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted: I took winter and spring off as I don’t have major prep classes to take at my CCC anymore. However, I have been working since January 2020 to compensate for the time I’m not in school.

First Generation Student: No

Additional Info: IGETC certified. I think maybe the reason I was waitlisted was because I had a supplemental application to complete with two letters of recommendation. One of my recommenders submitted the letter of rec one day after the deadline had passed. Both my recommenders were great, my organic chemistry professor and my CNA program instructor from American Red Cross and my essays were pretty strong.

Questions: What major was I waitlisted for? It doesn’t say in the decision letter and I applied as nursing and my alternate major was biology. Anyone know how many nursing majors typically get waitlisted and actually get in? This is my last hope as I wasn’t accepted into any other nursing programs in public schools and I would have to go to private schools which isn’t really optimal in my financial situation. :frowning:

Major: Chemistry

GPA: 3.66

Major Prep Complete: Missing 1 physics class

Extracurricular(s): Treasurer for Chem Club

TAP: no

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted: My GPA is not amazing. Not many extracurricular activities

First Generation Student: Yes!

** Forum champion message:
Ethnicity not allowed or considered. I removed all references. Do not put in. Thx. **

It seems admissions admitted around 13% this year vs 22% last year. Any chance COVID-19 might actually help our chances to get accepted?

Major: Pre-econ

GPA: 3.71

Major Prep Complete: Completed by winter 2020

Extracurricular(s): I have nothing honestly :frowning:
I’m from Thailand, but I am a US citizen+ CA resident.
I went to high school in Thailand.
I was in the honors program at community college.
I can speak 2 languages. I know that’s not what they are looking for.

TAP: Yes

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted: GPA is not high enough I think and I have 1 W.

First Generation Student: No

Questions: I heard that UCLA accepted fewer transfer applicants this year. Does anyone know if it’s because of COVID-19 or it is just how it is?

Do you think many people who got accepted will reject the offer? because some of them choose UCB over UCLA, and many international students might not be able to go to UCLA this year due to the coronavirus. Thanks!

Major: Pre Econ-Business

GPA: 3.9

Major Prep Complete: All complete

Extracurricular(s): Some volunteer work

TAP: Nope

Opt-in/Opt-out: Opt-in

Reasons you may have been waitlisted:

  1. 1 W
  2. B in Accounting 1B
  3. Essays were meh

First Generation Student: Yes

Questions: How many people usually get off wait list I am genuinely curious

@norcal57 Interesting. Where were you able to find this current cycle’s admit rates?

I’m thinking COVID may result in some people needing to leave college for family or financial reasons. Although, I’m not sure if UCLA already compensated for this when accepting the current high school and transfer student classes.

There aren’t any exact numbers yet but the decision letter claimed that they received nearly 26,000 applications for a class of just over 3,500 transfer students

UCLA admitted over 5000 transfer applicants in past years. And the decision letter says 3500/26000 applications were admitted yesterday. Does this mean they will take around 2000 off the waitlist?
