UW GPA: 3.920
UC GPA: 4.16

Lifeguard/swim instructor at a local YMCA(been there for 6 months). I’ve accumulated just over 250 volunteer hours.

So here’s the dilemma: I’ve been studying for the November SAT to increase my score by hopefully at least 70 points. I haven’t taken any SAT 2’s yet and was considering taking Chem, Math 1, and Physics in December. The UC application’s are due by Nov. 30 but you can send your scores for the SAT 2’s in December(by request). The only problem with doing this is that it will delay my application reading which could disadvantageous. Take the SAT 2’s and boost my app or leave it as it is? Thanks guys! Chance me!

I’m also ranked within the top 10% of my class. Not sure if this was relevant or not, just thought I’d put it out there.

I believe the UC’s do not start looking at applications until January so the December SAT 2’s should be fine.

You look like a competitive applicant but I do not see that you mentioned an intended major. Also are you able to afford $55K/year for the UC’s and around $36K/year for Cal Poly SLO with little to no financial aid?

Depending upon your major,
UCSC is a Low Match/Match
UCSD is a Match/High Match
UCLA/UCB is a High Match/Low Reach

The UC’s are full fees to OOS residents. Can you afford $55K per year. There are no scholarships/grants for OOS.

Also, you need a full year of Visual and Performing Arts. I don’t know if they will count your Pottery class in your senior year. It’s usual something broader in the arts like painting or mixed media.

Thank you for your feedback. Money is something to consider at the moment, I posted here just to see my chances though. The visual arts requirement now concerns me. I’ll see my counselor on Monday. Also my intended major falls within the field of chemistry, whether I apply for the College of Letters and Sciences or the College of Chemistry at UCB is still a decision to ponder.
