UC Berkeley (with Regents' Scholarship) or Washington University in St. Louis?

I have been accepted into both schools of engineering. What do you guys think?

uhhhh. don’t come to berkeley if this is a hard decision for you.

Not sure I understand the dilemma, since you haven’t given any information that would line up on the side of WUSTL.

Engineering program - not even close
Rank of school - not even close
Regents Scholarship at Cal vs presumably nothing similar at WUSTL

There might be differences we don’t see - total cost, closeness or distance from home, something like that - so help us out if you want useful comments or advice.

Well WUSTL is a private school, and therefore it has all the benefits that go along with that. It also has a higher USNEWS overall undergrad ranking (if that matters to the OP). But, as rider730 pointed out, the Berkeley engineering program is by far the stronger program, so I would go to Berkeley for that. (note: I’m making a similar decision myself between Berkeley, WUSTL, and Cornell, but my decision is in the biological sciences).

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was just kinda lazy to type everything haha. I really can’t say much because I don’t have a concrete idea of what exactly I want to study. I am interested in biomedical engineering, but I also want to study psychology.

I think there are several advantages for me at Cal. I live in central California and my parents would like for me to stay relatively close to home. My brother is also an engineering student at Berkeley so he would definitely be able to help me a lot, even though he’s studying chemical engineering. And of course, the Regents’ scholarship is always a plus.

I like WUSTL for many reasons, including the city of St. Louis, great housing, and the fact that it’s a private school. I’ve been told that one of WashU’s greatest strengths is the academic flexibility – the ease of changing schools and double majoring, which is especially important given my situation. I always hear positive remarks about this university, but I will learn more when I visit later this spring.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Cal 10 char.

Also singh2010, i know that the students in MCB at Cal are really cutthroat. I am assuming you want to do pre-med, in which case all of the schools you have gotten into are solid. Good luck in making your decision.

Depending on how much your Regent’s Scholar is covering, I would probably go to Cal.

However, if your budget isn’t an issue, definitely consider WUSTL for being a private school and having a higher general ranking since you really don’t know what you want to do. Public education requires too much independent work.
