Wash U vs. Berkeley

I'm planning to go to med school in the future and I'm stuck in deciding between wash u st louis and uc berkeley. both are obviously good schools, and there are advantages to both. im in for biomedical engineering and premed for wash u, which I know is an amazing program. but the reputation and cost of berkeley (in state tuition) is so attractive as well. Im in molecular cell bio at cal and will probably be double majoring in business there.

can you guys give me any advice/factors to consider when making my decision?

thanks in advance

Don't worry about the name, in academia, WashU is well known. It's only the average person on the street that hasn't heard of it.

but about the tuition and the major choice...i feel that on one hand, the tuition at berkeley is unbeatable. at the same time tho, i feel that bioengineering is so much more practical and probably a lot more useful as a major in comparison with bio

do you think its worth going to wash u for the biomedical engineering major?

Have you visited Wash U? Did you like it there? Both are great schools but it should ultimately come down to where you feel most comfortable, because academically, both schools are amazing.

i had the same choice with berk and wash u and in state tuition as well. i chose wash u in the end.

it offers a better education for med, more opportunities, and a much better environment to succeed in

About double majoring in engineering and business - that's very easy to do. Also, if you're interested in getting an MBA with your engineering degree, there is a 5 year BS/MBA program available at WashU.

As for tuition, talk to Bill Witbrodt and tell him that you're thinking about going to Berkley instead of WashU because it's cheaper to stay in-state, and he might give you more of a financial incentive to attend WashU.

i just want to let you know that although getting a BS in Business and BME is feasible, it is not recommended. BME is already an extremely difficult track and if you want to do business on top of tha, you are looking at around 20/21 credits per a semester for 4 years.(assuming you want to graduate in 4..you don't have to of course) Because of all these reqs, you also won't have too much flexibility in choosing the other classes that interest you

everything seems to indicate that wash u is a better school but i made a couple of observations when i was at both campuses

1) im pretty state schools (esp. cal) would have a wide array of resources as well, in terms of research, etc

2) when I visited (btw i loved the campus) the atmosphere was very laid back and there was drinking everywhere I looked

do you think the environment is academically conducive and do you think that for the tuition that there is a sizable advantage to going to wash u?
