UC Berkeley - Working while pursuing undergrad degree

Hi,
I just have a few quick questions about working at Cal while pursuing my Bachelor's

I am wondering do a lot of EECS students work while pursuing their undergrad degree? Is it too much of a burden to work?

And what kind of jobs do undergrads get? How much money do they make and how much time do people usually work for?

Also, do these jobs help in any other way than making money? I mean can you put them on your resume and stuff? Do they help in getting you admission to a grad school?

Is it easy to get paid internships as an undergrad? How long do these internships usually last for?

EECS undergrads do not usually work part-time…only the ones who are short on money or great time managers.

On-campus jobs at the library, dining commons, etc. If you have work-study in your financial aid package, sign into workstudy.berkeley.edu to check and apply to job listings. These jobs usually pay $10 and upwards to $15 per hour.

You can put the jobs on your resume, sure. I think any kind of job experience shows commitment and work ethic. I assume it counts toward the leadership aspect in applications. Working part-time all four years (I’m a senior) does take a toll during exam season, but tell your supervisor a few weeks in advance and you should be able to work a more flex schedule during busier weeks.

Cisco has a pretty well-known paid internship program for undergrads. I think it’s difficult to get a paid internship but not an unpaid internship at a Silicon Valley startup. There are so many recruiters at the engineering career fairs on campus that you should have no trouble getting one the summer after junior year.

Hope that helps!
