UC Davis 2012 Admissions

so i didn’t get blue and gold? my mom makes 0.

I’m just trying to figure out how I’m supposed to make it at UCLA with 5500 pell grant…

north do u think i should call to see why they didnt give me a scholarship? i put down myself as a commuter but not even 100$? My efc is a 2 ffs

@philosoup
well, if you are guaranteed the calgrant (i think that is calgrant A?) then that is what you would get instead of the blue and gold. the schools just use whatever money they can to cover your fees. as i stated above, that is why you want to attend a UC and Not a state school. if you did not qualify for calgrant the school would just swap that amount out (or something close) with blue and gold plan aka scholarships/grants/gift aid.

@northbeach I wish I got the scholarship instead of cal grant since it’s like 2600 dollars more Lol.

so if i didn’t get the 23 cal grant but 20 scholarship recognition, then i will get 23 blue and gold?

im confused because my recognition award doesn’t even cover my fees and health insurance…and i thought i would be eligible for blue and gold if i was under 80k…

@uckitty
hmm. you guys sound confused. okay. uckitty, as you can see by your financial aid package the school has shown you how to pay 100 percent of the “cost of admission” using the money that they will give you (that is the blue and gold plan) and pell and loans. right? you will have to take out low interest fed loans (like almost every other student in the country) to pay that small amount listed. around 9k per year. if you do not want to borrow that money from the feds, then get a job and use that money to pay the 9k. but sometimes it is better to borrow the money and concentrate on your schoolwork. either way, the school has made sure that you will be able to pay the fees and you are getting a 21 THOUSAND DOLLAR DISCOUNT!

im stupidddd! argghh

I’m thinking 5500/3 = 1833/3 AHAHA, I’m still so excited I GOT IN is why

so 1833 a month…then ill just take out like 5k in loans maybe…

you guys need to remember that taking those small loans from the feds is normal. and that out of state students pay around 60k per year as the cost of their attendance with NO grant money. right? so this is an amazing thing to get so much money donated from the school. the blue and gold is also new, if we did not have that you would have to borrow about 23k per year. not 9k.

this is amazing, I’m happy with my financial aid now 1833 a month, and i will also get a job…im going to be like 3k a month basically.

@UCKItty
ah, good idea. borrow as little as possible. i know it is a jumble. i am so damn poor i have just studied these suckers for two years while waiting to get accepted. haha. i was accepted to a few private schools last year and would have needed to borrow 40k per year to attend. now that was a nightmare. and they gave me 20k in scholarships each year. cost of attendance was aroun d60k per year.

i love the UC system. so happy we made it in.

USC gives bomb ass financial aids–literally.

wait a second, i think I’m tripping again.

the pell grant is each quarter?

@philosoup
the grant was only more for UCKitty. your grant would probably have been reduced to whatever you are getting with calgrant because right now you are still covered by blue and gold, unless your family makes more than 80k per year. and then it gets more complicated. so the confusion is that you think that the scholarship is some sort of single amount, but it is just a “plan” that covers whatever UCKitty needs in their minds, which is more than what they believe you need. her EFC is lower than yours. hope that makes sense now.

UCKitty

Pell Grants are a maximum of 5,500 dollars per YEAR. excluding the summer grant, which you can apply for separately.

to figure out your budget, take the TOTAL amount 29k and divide that up.
but you must deduct all the tuition etc…stop worry what the breakdown of that money is. some if it comes from loans, some is not.

the money is not meant to cover every month of the year, just the months you are attending school. the school will disburse the money on a schedule that we will be dependent on. and it is not every month (at least not that i have ever seen).

and by the way, none of us will be rich. this is just barely enough money to survive while we are in school. but i am thrilled with that myself.

Here’s my financial aid package for the current 2011-2012 year: http://i43.■■■■■■■.com/2dsmrzo.png</a> ($4,822.00 offered in subsidized Federal Direct Loans + $2,678.00 offered in unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans = $7500.00) I have $0 for Student Self-Help Expectation and $11.2k listed for Student Contribution. I’m wondering why the unsubsidized loans aren’t offered for the 2012-2013 year.

Did the cost of attendance drop or something? Because I noticed in the screenshots that instead of $31k, it’s approx. 28.6k. Oh, sweet relief.

I do not have financial aid figures for the 2012-2013 year yet. :C Wonder what’s taking them so long.

@north okay thanks for your input. So I basically didn’t get the scholarship award because they believed I would be financially stable with just cal and pell grant? Or is it because they thought I didn’t qualify? ie low gpa etc

confused, nevermind. thanks for your help nb.

I really would hope that those with college educated parents would have a perfect gpa… If not, there is something wrong with you. Those of us without college educated parents, or without parents in general, never got the little bit of extra help with homework or study habits and had to learn it all on our own. knock it off and dont be a ******; your post hardly makes sense anyway, aside from yelling at some parents.

^^ what?..
