I am a new student living in a double in Currant Hall this school year. I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions I have.
- How tall are the regular non-lofted beds?
- How wide are the closets and is there a shelf at the top?
I know these are probably weird questions but I want to buy some storage stuff and don’t want it to be too big. Thanks in advance
Have you already attended orientation? If not, you can probably measure the exact height when you are there.
The regular beds have three heights. (see the Aggie Abode video https://housing.ucdavis.edu/residence-halls/currant-hall/) Most people in doubles move their beds to the top height so they can put storage underneath. For the regular bed at the highest level, we were able to stack plastic storage drawers that I believe were 24 inches in height. The 30 inch ones were too tall.
There are two shelves in the closet but the top one is pretty high. Depending on how tall you are, you might bring a short step stool that folds (search for “folding step stool” on Amazon to get an idea). The closets don’t have doors so bring some baskets/ opaque bins to store personal items (meds, hygiene products, etc). I can’t tell you the exact width of the closets but there is room for a lot of clothes.
A couple other items to consider bringing: Command hooks (good for hanging lab coats, hats, etc) and a safe with a cable where you can keep valuables.
Edit to add that the Target in town has a lot of plastic drawers/bins available during move in weekend.
Thank you for the response. It was super helpful!
