I’m interested in participating in some of the intramural sports offered on campus. I want to play badminton, tennis, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee.

How committed do you need to be if you join these intramural sports. Are you always required to show up at a certain time on a weekly basis and participate? If you are too busy with schoolwork and don’t have time to play and don’t show up in certain weeks, will you be kicked off?

Are these sports programs mainly just there for people to have fun in their free time? Or do they really take these things seriously, like once you join a team, you really need to be committed for the whole quarter?

IM Sports are very flexible. I played soccer Fall and Spring quarter, and the rule is basically, if you have enough people to play that game, you're good. It's usually one game a week. Note that if you don't have enough people to play, you have to pay a $20 forfeit team. So if you can't make it to a game, get someone to take your spot.

Collegiate sports = you play for the school. IM sports = you make your own team and play against other teams.

You join it by signing up your team on the IM website... imsports.ucdavis.edu. In the dorms, usually one of the RAs sets up the team for you.

No it's not like a club. Club is more similar to Collegiate, where you actually compete against other schools.

No you don't have to be that experienced. I've played people who probably have never played the sport before, and were just fillers to make sure the team had enough people to play.

BabyBlue, IM sports is basically you playing for fun against other people from UC Davis. You don't play against other schools.

Hey fooshy, I don't know anyone at UC Davis, so obviously I can't set up my own team. Can I just sign myself into some of these sports programs and have them put me into a random team, or would I have to know people first before I sign up?

You setup a team after the first 2 weeks in school, and if you live in the dorms, there will be a Res Hall team setup by one of the RAs. You can't just sign-up for a team because one person does the registration for the whole team, so you'd have to let them know to put you on the roster.

No IM Sports will not help your transcript, but it will make you enjoy your college experience! We have the largest IM Sports Program outside of Texas, with over 16,000 some odd participants each year.

Don't worry about not having friends right now, in the dorms I guarantee you will be able to find a team. Even if your not interested in an IM sports, chances are if you are a freshmen you will get recruited to one team at least once.

IM TUBE POLO is by far my favorite. It was invented in Davis.

IM Sports are for fun, a good way to get some stress out, smile, and forget about class for a couple hours a week.

I like how they separate out the different skill levels so if you've never played a sport before you're not playing against someone who used to play club or professional.

holy crap i can't decide what i want to join, badminton or tennis. i went out to target yesterday to buy a badminton set and i already have a tennis racquet, so i'm set for either.
