I’m looking to transfer this fall for a communications major in either ucd or sjsu but I’m torn for a couple of reasons. UCD seems to have a higher ranking in the school and the department overall and I’ve heard that it has a great student life where the sense of community is very present which I like since I would love to make great friends and have a fun time.
However, they don’t have many minors that I am interested in (I plan on choosing a minor). SJSU, on the other hand, has a communications major that is also highly ranked and has every minor that I am contemplating.
SJSU is also in an urban area whereas UCD is more suburban so I feel that it might be more easy to find an internship in the San Jose area rather than in Davis/Sacramento. Is that true?
The quarter system at Davis kinda scares me and I feel that the environment at sjsu would be more relaxed but I also don’t want to place more importance on that than on a quality education.
I’d just like some direction or tips on making this decision :?
It sounds like you’ve made a solid decision and SJSU sounds like more what you want. It’s a great school, highly regarded and respected.
i wouldn’t worry about their relative ranking. You should pick the one where you will excel - what you do while in college is way more important than where you get your degree. That said, the Davis/Sac area has plenty of internship opportunities and for your major proximity to the capitol and all of the lobbying that happens there might present some unique opportunities.
