UC Decision part dos!!

has ANYONE had any SB acceptance outside of the first two days? i'm thinking it's almost a weekly rollout now.

Oh wow I hope so. That would take some stress out of the wait. I'd rather go through the roller coaster of checking only a few times a week than everyday, several times a day.

i'm starting to think that, mykris202. because i haven't heard of anyone being accepted other than those who were accepted on monday/tuesday. i'm really not all that worried about getting into UCSB but i'd just like to know if i got in SOMEWHERE before the long haul of USC/UCB/UCLA notifications.

Mykris202,

But that means we have a chance of hearing our results sooner than waiting a week for them. Either way it works :)

So... just for my own peace of mind... anyone wanna chance me for Berkeley??

3.48 trasferable GPA
Music Major
Full-time student (got through the bulk of CC in 1.5 years)
EC's: volunteered for a musical theatre company over this past summer; voice lessons, piano lessons
I tested out of high school at 16 and started college then... I'm 18 now and I'm hoping that my starting college that early have positive bearing on my admission? :D
IGETC done by end of spring semester
Essays were okay... for the big "what's your major?" one I basically rambled on about my involvement with music and how I love it so much, etc., etc.... If anything I think my passion for it came across.

I honestly think your GPA may be a bit low for UCB. But I don't know their rate of music majors or anything of that sort, I'm speaking generally.

They do take in account a job or anything of that nature that may tell on your GPA. I don't know if you age will affect your admission. I know of several stellar young students that applied at 16 to a 4 year university and they tend to shy away from that (freshman at 16) as they are concerned about their maturity and ability to cope with stress. But you're not 16 so that doesn't really apply, lol.

From what I could tell with Berkeley, your EC's are what set you apart. But honestly, that's not definitive and who knows what sets you apart at Berkeley. I've heard of 3.9's getting rejected. The world is crazy.

I know that the music major at UCB is one of the least competitive/impacted there (you don't generally go to Berkeley to be a music major... if you're super serious about performance and you've been groomed to be the next Itzhak Perlman since you were two years old... and I've known people like that... than you'll go to a conservatory; however I want to double major in an academic field so it's a fit for me, at least) so I don't think they get too many applicants for it. That might be in my favor.

The low GPA was a result of my trying to cram 20 units into a summer and recieveing a few B's... took too many hard classes with a majority of them, unfortunately, being taught by people who didn't know how to teach.

Damn... freshmen at 16... that's crazy... can't imagine how much they had to push themselves to be eligible to apply for a 4-year at that age.

classically trained pianist. private tutors all year around. lots of community college courses during middle school and HS... and skipping two grades. lol.

i've heard of stories that make people cringe and get really worried. about UCB acceptance that is. But I don't see a point in making people worry, lol.

Good luck, though! I wish you the best and hope to hear good news from you on April 30. =)

I really don't need to worry any more than I already am, lol. Thanks and good luck to you too! Did you apply to UCB?

that i did. philosophy major. oh yeah! lol. i don't really want to go there... but it's nice to be wanted. =P

where's your first choice?

UCLA!!!!!! a million times cooler. lol. to me, at least.

I really wanted to go to UCLA too...farther away from home (huuuuuge plus) and I love socal...

didn't pass the vocal audition. my recording was of really bad quality cause I did it last minute w/ a bad technician. boo.

but honestly, the bay is my favorite place in California... I'm soooooo excited about the possibility of moving there in a few months! :D

Yeah, I'm a SoCal kid and I am not a fan of the Berkeley area. To... dull.

But Berkeley isn't exactly the "bay area" (this is a non-bay area person speaking) and I'm aware of the distance from Berkeley to the actual bay. It's like someone from Porter Ranch saying that they live by the beach, lol.

I live in the bay area.... and berkeley is most definitely in the bay area... thats kind of like saying UCLA isn't in socal...

does anyone know if when we transfer our GPA's reset? or if the classes we take just add to our current gpa's??

Our GPA's reset. Oh and Berkeley is definitely in the bay area.

I was wondering that if our GPAs reset, does this mean that I can still become valedictorian or salutatorian?

Or maybe the UCs don't have a valedictorian or salutatorian :(

i lived most of my life la and couple years in sd and now im living in the bay and los angeles is still my favorite

CaliforniaLife, they have Latin Honors instead, like for UCLA:

* School of the Arts and Architecture: 3.934 for summa cum laude, 3.867 for magna cum laude, 3.810 for cum laude
* College of Letters and Science: 3.870 for summa cum laude, 3.780 for magna cum laude, 3.636 for cum laude
* School of Nursing: 3.870 for summa cum laude, 3.780 for magna cum laude, 3.636 for cum laude
* Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science: Contact the Office of Academic and Student Affairs, 6426 Boelter Hall, for specific information
* School of Theater, Film, and Television: 3.886 for summa cum laude, 3.854 for magna cum laude, 3.758 for cum laude

Interesting. So they offer each latin honors section to more than one person, I am presuming. I wonder if they take into account pre-transfer grades. It would benefit me more if they didn't. lol. Thanks for the info :)
