@jdsam23 how was Discover UCI? I couldn’t go because I had an exam
@ShuttlepilotND it was pretty fun but i felt like it was a bit too short (9:30-11:00) and it seemed like it was mostly info you could access from their website.
Guys, please be real and honest with me. I need some advice.
I’m at risk of getting rescinded because it’s very likely that I’ll get a D/F in one of my current classes (Calc). The thing is, the class that I’m going to fail is not a pre requisite course for my major; it’s actually not even a recommended course. I took it just cuz.
I already sent an email through the UCI portal to my UCI counselor saying that I’m failing since my father got into a big car crash on the freeway, and that we ended up owing A LOT of money (insurance covers only like 30% of it) to the other parties for their “pain and suffering,” straining an already struggling family.
How likely is it that I’ll get rescinded? Is UCI known to be understanding in these types of cases? If it helps, I’m willing to retake the course in the summer at a different CC.
@tallone123 It really depends. Without this class do you still have 60 transferable units/do you have a tag? Which would mean you have to meet minimum requirements. Also, what would your gpa fall to if you fail this class
Anybody on the waitlist hear anything perhaps?
@boredandconfused I submitted my appeal a couple days ago and I’m also on the waitlist. I haven’t heard anything. Weren’t we supposed to hear after June 1st because thats when they will see how many people are SIR’ing? Correct me if i’m wrong.
@CancelOut No, you’re right, I was just wondering if anyone got any new information on being waitlisted or asked for supplemental paperwork
I was also waitlisted and submitted an appeal, but when I called admissions they told me my appeal is separate from being waitlisted and that appeals are read in july/august, which doesn’t sound right to me, can anyone clarify?
To be honest I thought writing an appeal would help your chances to get off the waitlist if its deemed worthy. I was under the impression that appeals are read after May 15, which is the deadline to have an appeal submitted. @boredandconfused
The waitlist intent deadline has passed May 15 and the transfer statement of intent to register does not pass until June 1st. I would not expect any waitlist decisions to come out until after June 1st as all those applicants who just checked UCI on their applicaton for peace of mind fail to register by June 1st.
The fact that every Bus Admin major on this forum was waitlisted to me is a good sign that that UCI admissions simply wants to see who actually wants to attend and to keep their admission yield numbers high for US News Rankings. This allows them also to better judge the size of the incoming class as those who accept the waitlist are more likely to want to attend.
To those who appealed, does your portal show uci appeal pending in pink?
@CancelOut mine does, yours?
yeah mines does. i was just making sure. Thanks @boredandconfused
@boredandconfused Just curious, if you don’t mind answering. Did you describe a hindrance to your academic performance in your appeal? I explained a couple of semesters and the reason for those grades with some documentation but I’m not sure if this is considered “new and compelling”. I didn’t state any of it in the original application.
@CancelOut I described how my parents’ divorce during my senior year/first summer of college effected my academic performance and because of the two jobs I had and caring for a younger sibling I didn’t do my best in school. I then went on to say when I started volunteering at a hospital I knew working as a therapist is something that I wanted to do, etc. What kind of documentation did you include? I only put the appeal form and my recent transcripts
I included a death certificate for a family member and described how that affected my performance for specific semesters. I also sent transcripts and my appeal form. I Hope both of our appeals will have a impact on the waitlist decision. @boredandconfused
@CancelOut I’m sorry for your loss. When I spoke to someone from admissions they told me appeals are read last so I feel as though they’re gonna be cushions for us if we don’t get in off the waitlist. I don’t know but I have a really good feeling a lot if not all waitlisted people are going to get in don’t you think? Uci isn’t a high tier school necessarily so we shouldn’t have any trouble getting in
Thank You, I appreciate it. I really hope so but some people have UCI as their backup school. We won’t know for sure until that decision is made but I do really hope for the best of us that are waitlisted. It’s honestly all about the amount of students that decide to SIR. @boredandconfused
@CancelOut I feel like SB SD Davis are more of backup schools and Irvine is almost there too, even though I’m in love with the school. I know a good 30 people who got accepted but will be attending San Diego/Santa Barbara/ ucla instead. I have a good feeling for us. Now we just wait
Wait did we have to write something for the waitlist? :#
