UC Irvine is under fire for rescinding 500 admission offers two months before fall term begins

"… The withdrawals have kicked up a storm of protest on social media, with scores of students expressing outrage and pleading for help on Twitter, Reddit and the UC Irvine Class of 2021 Facebook page. Many insist the rescission notices cited reasons either minor or bogus or gave no reason at all. They speculate that the campus simply was coming up with excuses to solve a problem after more students than expected said they planned to attend.

‘UCI overenrolled freshmen so they might be withdrawing admissions on purpose to kick as many students out,’ said Emily Roche, 18, who was told her acceptance was canceled because her transcript had not arrived on time.

One widely discussed Reddit post by someone using the name UCIrvineCompany, who claimed be ‘in touch with the Office of Admissions,’ said about 800 more students than expected accepted UCI’s admission offers." …

One would think UCI would send an e-mail reminder about not receiving the transcript and give a few days for students to respond before issuing rescission. This is so unnecessary.

They do send reminders. But it’s an unforgiving system, one that blames the student if anything gets lost along the way.

A friend told me the incoming class at SJSU was over enrolled by 25% and that many freshman students were left without housing. 25% is a rather large error :-0

UC Santa Cruz rescinded over 500 acceptances in 2015 and I was afraid something similar would happen to DS’s application. DS’s college counselor sent his transcripts june 13 but they were not processed until July 20- AFTER i forced Ds to send a screenshot with proof of the sent date. It is so stressful! I really feel for these kids and their families.
