Hey guys! I could really use some feedback in regards to which college I should choose. I have been pondering over my choices for awhile (UCD, UCSD, UCI, Boston College, Northeastern, UoPacific) and narrowed them down to UCI and BC (I’m still waiting on USC and UCB though, so if you want please give me feedback on those two schools please do!). But anyways, I got into UCI and BC for their Honors Program for Biology/Pre-med. I hear scary stories about UCI’s biology and good stories as well but I haven’t really heard much about BC for their biology/ pre-med program. Let me know about the workload and just all those things. Please help me out And also…is the honors program worth it?
ktlink: Ask about pre-med and biology in the BC forum. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/boston-college/
There is a lot of information on these topics and many who can answer questions and address possible concerns you may have with first hand knowledge particular to the respective college. Likewise the UCI forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-irvine/
Good luck and congrats on your wonderful choices!
Regarding UCI, their biology department is excellent, I am sure BC would also provide a great science education for you. My concern would be the cost difference, can you afford the increased cost of BC? Average med school loans are $180,000, it would be nice to minimize the cost of undergrad.
On the other hand, it will be more difficult to connect with professors at UCs, there are such large classes, it takes a lot of effort to connect with the Prof. A private school can afford you easier connections with the professors.
If you get into Berkeley, the science education is quite similar in the information covered, but truly the reputation goes far, especially out of state and many CA med school applicants go out of state.
