UC Irvine or UC Santa Cruz for Computer Science?

Hello all!

I recently got admitted to UCI and UCSC (UCSD as Undeclared too but that’s basically rejection.) My desired major is computer science, and I wish to eventually get into the video game industry after I graduate.

I am wondering which school, UCI or UCSC, would provide me with the better college experience and prepare me wholesomely for a good career post-graduation?

Any insight is much appreciated, thank you for your time.

Hi! I’m also in the same situation as you but instead of UCSC, it’s UCSD. I’m leaning more towards UCI CS because although UCSD is more renown, UCI has a great CS program and there are a lot of tech companies near irvine. I’ve heard from friends at UCI that if you go to UCI CS, you’re practically guaranteed an internship at Amazon, Facebook, or Google. Good luck!

Have you visited either? What do you want from your “college experience”?

Unless you have direct admission to the CS major, both do have requirements higher than 2.0 GPA to get into the CS major, but not to the extreme of UCSD.
