Hi everyone. I'm applying to USC, UCSB, UCD, and UCI for Business Economics/Economics/Accounting (Marshall)

I have a 3.6 but will hopefully bump it up to a 3.7 by the time I transfer for Fall 2010.

I have completed my pre-reqs (Micro, Macro, Business Calc, Stats)

Since I haven't taken "normal" calculus is it still possible to transfer to UCI? They don't accepted Business Calc as a pre-req though. IGETC will be completed before transfer and I have some good EC's (honor society, 200 hours of community service, scholarships)

If your missing just 1 class, then i think you will be fine. The UC’s you listed arn’t that picky, just finish your transfer requirements, 2- English , 1 Math etc… and you will be fine.

I’m also thinking of applying to UCSD Economics, but again I haven’t completed “normal” Calculus. I’ve completed Business Calculus though. Will this greatly reduce my chances of being accepted into UCI and UCSD? All other pre-reqs have been completed.

Ok…so does that mean I can still get accepted without completing Calculus? I can just take it at UCI right? Or do I need Calculus to even be considered?

I keep hearing different information. On one hand people say you don’t need to finish all pre-reqs and that one or two is okay since you can finish them at the UC level and on the other hand people say that all pre-reqs need to be completed. Ahh. Frustrating.

You should just take normal calc for safe measure…

and UCI’s 2 calc courses are just that – 2 calc courses, they dont have the “C” series nor any equivalent course for “calc 2” in a semester program…

I’m pretty sure you’re fine. UCI allows transfers to be missing some of their pre-reqs, but, imo, you should plan to take Calc before transfer just because 1) you’ll be 100% safe that you finished all available pre-reqs and 2) junior college Calc is generally much easier than UC Calc. The UCs tend to look at the “whole package,” though, and since you have a pretty decent GPA and you finished your other requirements, you shouldn’t have that much to worry about if you’re set on not taking calculus at your CC.

retep-I have no choice, but to apply without Calculus. I’d have to take Geometry to get into Trig to get into Pre-calc to get into Calculus. Haha. So I have nooo time to take Calculus.

yeah, i also dont have time to finish calculus. but i also heard that the business program at UC Irvine is VERY competitive since it is a new program

I see. Goodluck. If you do get in, you still gotta take all those calculus classes for being a econ major. A few of my friends actually applied and got in for Business Econ since the business admin major was too hard to get into.

Hey im in the same boat with you. buisnnecon and uci. Did you take the computer science preresquite for Irvine? Do you think its necessary for transferring?

Naw, it’s not necessary to transfer, but you should try to complete as many pre-reqs as possible. It’ll save you money and time. Whatever pre-reqs you don’t complete you’ll complete at UCI if admitted.

Berkeley and UCLA are more strict with pre-reqs though. For those schools you should have all of them done…just in case you’re considering those schools as well.
