Hi @Iamsobusynow, that is great to hear that you have committed to UC Merced, and I’m excited for all of the experiences you will have.
As far as I know, you are not able to “own” a kitchen of your own on campus, and can only reserve kitchen spaces in the dorms.
As a first year, you are able to live in The Summits or the Sierra Terraces. In The Summits, Half Dome is the only dorm building that has an open kitchen for their residents, which does not require a reservation. For Tenaya, you must reserve the kitchen (Alpine Room) either through the housing office or online through rs.ucmerced.edu. Cathedral is the only dorm buliding that does not have a kitchen inside, so I recommend contacting housing for your options. If you choose to live in Tuolomne or Mariposa in the Sierra Terraces, you’ll have to reserve the kitchen space either in the terrace center (housing office) or online analogous to Tenaya.
Although homemade food is a must for you, I still recommend going to the DC to buy ingredients you might need to make your own food. I know the food there isn’t the best especially when you have it routinely (aka all the time lol) but you’ll be paying for it anyway.
Yes this can be a challenge for you, but this is what college is all about! Take this opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and be open to less appealing things, even if it’s something you really don’t like. I know this is silly to consider about the food on campus but sometimes a change in perspective is all you need to make the most of your time in college.
Hello! I’ve been provisionally admitted to UC Merced and plan on submitting my SIR within the next week. However, there is one factor that makes me nervous about doing so. I really want to commit to this school, but my current grade in my English class is low (it’s unofficial and still in-progress, as second semester hasn’t yet ended). By the end of second semester, I will at least have a D, undoubtedly, but obtaining a C right now is basically a hit-or-miss. I’m afraid of submitting my SIR and the non-refundable fee only to have Merced rescind my admission because of this one grade (I have As in all my other classes.) My grade became so low in this class because in third quarter I set aside most of my English homework to focus on preparations for Academic Decathlon competitions.
My heart is so set on this school. I’ve been to receptions, visited the campus, and I love the fact that it’s a continuously growing college. I want to be a part of this college and grow with it!
I know I must contact the admissions office to discuss this predicament, but I would appreciate hearing any advice that you could give. Thank you.
Hello @AerialAce, I apologize for the late response! I’ve just finished up my spring semester and I will get back to you soon!
@AerialAce,
Thank you for your patience in my response. I’m so happy you’re excited to attend UC Merced!! Other than letting admissions know of this situation, I’m sure you know that it is your responsibility as a student to be on top of your classes, and it’s a must to pass all your classes senior year. But, if you have determination then nothing should stop you from going to UC Merced; try your best to explain your situation to them and your interest in attending but if they end up not accepting you just reapply as soon as you can. Please let me know if anything else, see you soon!
