UC or Udub for CS

I was accepted in UCI ,UCD and Udub .I am thinking of washington as it is highly ranked in CS but I have not got a direct admission in CS whereas in UCI, I am getting a direct admission in there CS school and UCD is giving admission in their engineering school.

what is Udub?

Please someone advice me as I am highly confused…

Udub is university of washington

Go to a school that has given you direct admission to the CS program.

Without that, you’d need to apply during your freshman year, when you’ll be adjusting to both college-level work and living on your own. Some kids have no problems adjusting, while others can experience a freshman bobble, impacting their ability to gain admission to the program they’re hoping for.

Net price at each school?

University of Washington’s CS major is said to be extremely competitive to get into if you are not a direct admit. The applied and computational mathematical science major, which appears to be a second choice major for many would-be computer science majors, is also competitive admission. Ask around how stiff the competition for these majors is these days. Check whether there are majors you are willing to do if you are not admitted to your desired majors at the University of Washington.

http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/majors-and-minors/list-of-undergraduate-majors/

Net price at each school is almost same and how does CS at UC irvine compare to that of washington.

It doesn’t. UWashington is superior to UCI. Could you do well at UCI? We don’t know enough about you to know. Could you do poorly at UWashington? Well, it’s certainly possible if you never get into the CS major or you get to seattle and hate the rain and clouds–or for any number of other reasons. there’s risk in each choice, but you cannot eliminate all the risk in a decision. Is there any chance you could get to one or the other of them and do an overnight in a dorm and talk to the profs and students in CS?

UCI is a fine place to do CS, so it would be lower risk choice in terms of the possibility of not being able to get into your desired major at Washington.

And what about CS at davis. Is it better than CS at irvine

UCD and UCI are both perfectly good places to study CS. What you may want to do is check the CS offerings to see if there are any elective courses of interest to you that one but not the other offers. Also check the overall degree requirements of the majors to see if the differences in requirements might be something that causes one to be a better fit than the other.

Of course, the non-academic characteristics can differ. Davis is a small town in a rural area; the nearest major city is Sacramento in California’s central valley. Irvine is in Orange county, a wealthy suburban area where flashy displays of wealth are relatively common (e.g. Rolls Royce and Bentley cars, rather than merely Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, and Tesla cars; also very large private boats docked behind waterfront houses).

Which one would you prefer amongst these 3 universities(i do not have a direct admission in washington)

You need to decide engineering or CS for the UC options. They are more than acceptable colleges for those majors. Only pick UDub if you will be satisfied with an alternate major if you can’t get into CS or CE.

“The capacity problem is not a soft rain, misting lightly on a select few; it’s a downpour. Last year, in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering – the most over-subscribed department in the College – only 30 percent of qualified applicants could be accommodated. Last year, the college as a whole turned away more than 500 prospective engineering majors. Nearly half of upper-division applicants saw their goals blocked.”

What are the costs at each, after scholarships/grants and before any loans?

The risk of not being able to get into your chosen major at UWA is quite high since the university is quite selective to start with, the stem students pretty strong, and the CS major (even the computational math version) highly selective. How do you compare to the students in these fields will matter a lot - what are your stats?

IF COSTS ARE SIMILAR, I would go with either UC. Look into both programs - CSE vs. CS. Which do you like better? Both have excellent programs. Davis is more of a college town where you bike around, Irvine is more of a bling/wealthy city.
