Hi! I was wondering if this personal statement would work with the either UC prompt.
I am applying to UCI as a Drama major.

"At a time where many kids my age were busy having fun and enjoying their short life, mine seemed to crumble. I stood by my mother as she took her last breath. My body was numb. Hands clammy. I was staring at the women who brought me into this world, taught me to read and to write, and become a young lady. I reached into her and kissed her forehead for the last time, and soon she was gone. After six months of fighting this dangerous disease, she was gone. Just like that.

I clenched my fists. Tried not to cry. Held in every emotion known to mankind to show others I wasnt weak. All throughout the eighth and ninth grade, it became a daily routine thus feeling empty and undesirable.

In my sophomore year of high school, the drama department was holding auditions for their annual musical. I leered at the sign up list for quite some time. I recalled my mom wanting me to join the local dance team and participate in stage musicals at such a young age. I would perform and trot around everywhere I went with my mother, singing and dancing through the supermarket aisles perfecting my routine for the upcoming dance recitals. She told me that I was her little star. I mean, I have always had a secret desire to entertain people with my mysterious talent. Maybe this was healthy for me, to actually get involved in something new. Soon enough, I auditioned and made the musical, which came as a shock. Rarely, individuals not apart of the advance class did not make the cast list.

In the time of putting up this production, I saw myself transform. From being a socially awkward teenager, I evolved into a bright, active, theatrical, young adult. I was stronger. Driven. And alive. Theatre was my great escape from the world. I was free to express myself in all sorts of ways. It has taught me to turn all of my experiences through art. The intensity that surrounds me on the stage, absorbing into a character unlike any other; to grasp the reality and flee into an imagination scape without limitations. It makes me who I am.

Before and after every performance, I always thank my mother; who helped guide me through my struggles as she will always be in my heart. Who helped me realize my true passion and told me to follow your dreams whatever they may be.

Now, I am ready for new adventures beyond the horizon and climb every mountain, one in which I hope would be attending college to expand my outlook and education on my love for acting. I believe my newfound ambition and great strength will help me succeed in college with a greater appreciation for life and the theatre.

I am a thespian."
