UC Prompt 2 - mentioning history of mental health

In prompt #2 of my UC personal statement, I’m trying to mention in my essay why I’m majoring in psychology (not the main topic of my essay, but there is a part where I go in to the reason of why I’m majoring in psych), and part of my interest in psychology stems from my history of growing up with bi-polar disorder and ADHD. Should I mention my history of depression or does anyone think that it might hurt me and make me look bad and unstable?

If it’s a part of who you are, then mention it. I don’t think they can/will reject you just because you have bipolar disorder.

Be careful with how you present it. It could hurt you if you write it in a way that makes it seem like hese things might hinder you from being capable of succeeding at the school

@imbep49 Thanks, I talk about it early on and how it effected me as a child, but not as an adult and I don’t go on and on about it. I made sure to not make it the star of my essay. I made sure to not make such a depressing essay, and the main theme of the whole essay is how I overcame socioeconomic obstacles and succeeded as a community college student and how my accomplishments helped me develop into a stronger person, etc etc. I was just afraid of mentioning it at all and didn’t know if I should even mention it once.

Yes, that sounds like a really good way to incorporate it into your essay and I think it could help you to have that added in.
