I'm a transfer student who recently applied to UCLA and I was wondering... If you find out you've been chosen to apply for the regent's scholarship does that mean you have been accepted? I ask because I heard the university contacts you to apply (if eligible) sometime around February. If that's true, it would be a heck of a lot nicer knowing the university's decision that much sooner instead of having to wait until the last week of April.

i don't think so...you won't know till next yr..

From what I've heard, if you're contacted about any scholarship, you're in.

^^^ wrong.

University contacting you for scholarship is merely a recommendation for you to apply because the university thinks you are eligible (meaning, you either meet the minimum requirement to apply or is considered mid-50% of scholarship candidates). It by no means acceptance.

chosen to apply for a scholarship? you mean they send you a letter telling you that your grades are pretty good and that you have a chance? or are they inviting you to visit their campus?

if you receive a letter around jan/feb about scholarships, you're in. what will happen is they will invite you to an orientation and while you're there, they will congratulate you on your acceptance.

"If you are nominated for certain scholarships (i.e. Regents), you'll be called in for an interview in early February, and this means you've been accepted. (This doesn't apply to internationals.)"

I guess not any, but certain scholarships.

UCLA regent don't you need 4.0 to be eligible?

I think it's in the high 3's, like 3.75-3.8 or so.

UCLA requires a 4.0 for transfer students to be eligible for regents.

yah unfortunately, i don't have 4.0 so i have to shoot for other scholarships... but it seems there are not that much of choices..

If you get invited for REGENTS specifically, you will be in. Also it's not true about the 4.0 for regents. I had a friend 2 years back who got invited and actually got the regents without a 4.0 for UCLA

that was 2 years back, its a 4.0 now.

And it doesnt gurantee admission. I clearly recall someone was invited and then not accepted during my years on CC.

orly, every single person i've known who has gotten invited for regents has gotten in

All the Regents letter is , is an invitation to COMPETE for the scholarship, it is not admission of any sort or are they telling you that you got the scholarship.

They will invite a ton of people to compete, they do not have to offer admission to all of them. And additionally i do not think that the same person reviews both

Invitation to interview for Regent's Scholarship means the applicant is granted admission to the school. Think about it logically, only the top few percents of the applicant pool get invited to the interviews, why would a school end up rejecting a top applicant who is exceedingly more well-qualified than the average applicant?

An admission can also be rescinded if the applicant does not keep up his/her GPA. I believe this is the case that you are referring to, Malishka31. You can get invited to the interview, but if you don't keep up your academic performance, your admission will be rescinded.

blog from the admissions people at UCLA-

Reagents scholarship is not affiliated with the admissions office, the financial aid office does it.
So it could happen that you get rejected. However i do see how it is unlikely but non the less people should not assume that being considered for regents is some sort of guranteed admission decision

From what students have said: when you walk in for the interview, they will tell you, "Congratulations, you have been accepted ..."

It's a provisional acceptance, though. You have not "officially" been accepted.

i want regents scholarship!!!!!

i'll be satisfied with just getting accepted.

So does anyone know when UCB sends out their transfer Regent's invites? It seems the freshmen invitations were sent out tonight.
