Has anyone received any Regents scholarship notification / invitation from either UCLA or CAL?

Do we have to have a 4.0 to be considered?

Thanks! :)

For your information, my UCLA regent scholarship invitation mail last year was postmarked on 03/21/2012.

How can that be? I thought you have to send your scholarship stuff by March 25th for last year?

Direct quotes from the letter:
If you wish to be considered for the UCLA Regents Scholarship, please submit the application along with a letter of recommendation by April 3, 2012 (4:00 P.M.) - NO EXCEPTIONS will be made.

Wow, that’s a small window.

Thanks KiseiTeMP!

I have received a regents invitation from Berkeley but not from UCLA. has any had a 2013 invitation from UCLA?

I’m a transfer student and just received an invitation for the Regent’s Scholarship for UCLA. They say it doesn’t guarantee acceptance, but I’m dubious. I currently have 78 units and a 4.0. I think I had a pretty strong application overall. I’m hoping to get more than $2200 if I get it. The odds seem slim this year, though, with record numbers of applicants.

I’m also a transfer student and have received invitation to apply for the Regent for UCLA. Does anyone know when they will notify the accepted scholars?

@Pantheroom $2,000 is the minimum someone gets regardless of financial need. If you do have need, then they will fulfill it completely. In other words, if you get it, you will get a full ride. And yes, I am pretty skeptical about getting the Regent as well.

The competition gets even tougher every year. I’m so thankful I was even invited so I’m trying not to get my hopes up BUT MANNNN how awesome would it be to get it.

Hey MitchKay, do you know if covering the rest of your need means covering their entire estimation of cost for the school year? For example, they estimated that in one school year I’d need to spend about $29,000 (including housing, food, transportation, tuition, etc.). Grants for me cover ~$20k. This leaves about $9k in costs. If I got the Regent’s, would they then supply an additional $9k, or would they supply nothing since “tuition” is basically already covered?

I’m wondering the same thing.

@Pantheroom between which schools are you deciding?

UCLA and UCSD, although it will probably be UCLA regardless. And you?

Cal and UCLA. I wasn’t considered for Regents at Cal

It’s already past 5 - I think that’s when their office closes. Maybe they won’t notify us today :/

I was accepted to Cal but I’m doing pre-med (biochemistry) and been in the Bay Area a long time, so UCLA is much more appealing.

Really wish they’d get back to us already.

I live in LA and love it but I think I should get out of my comfort zone and try the Bay Area for a couple of years

This is silly. Regent’s should be delivered well before acceptance deadline. Argggggg.

Cal is a great school, I’m sure you’ll be happy you chose it. What’s your major?

I got admitted as a psych major for both. I want to double major in psych and media (at Cal) or communications (at UCLA). Cal makes it pretty easy to double major. At UCLA, communications is so impacted that there is a very slim chance that I’ll be able to have that as my second major. On the other hand UCLA offers internships in media with really great companies like Disney and ABC. Cal has Google, NBC but mostly less known companies

Sounds like you’re pretty conflicted haha. Was your Regents invitation to Cal or UCLA?

UCLA. Not sure what one would have to do to get a Regents invite from Cal

Hey guys! I got the Regent for UCLA!!! Anyone else heard from them?

Yep, I got it as well. I wish everyone else some luck as well!
