i believe we all that got accepted do not have financial aid information yet. It will probably be up in the next few days or when the mail comes.
Got into UC Davis and Northeastern but got waitlisted at UCSC… seems kinda strange but that’s okay!
@Andreq we will be consulting our college counselor on what steps we can take. As of now we have accepted the waitlist offer. Will wait for news from counselor.
Accepted
In State
W GPA: 3.885
SAT: 1400
Major: CS
Does anyone know how ucsc chooses which students to take off the waitlist? Do they review applications again or is there some other way?
@adesperateant Good question!
@adesperateant It’s random
accepted with 1240 SAT, but probably won’t go due to costs…
@Andreq My S was waitlisted here which is fine. I suppose we should be happy we can afford to send them OOS. I also recommended the UC’s and 2 cal states thinking $ but knew the majors were not ideal. Even with good stats it’s a lottery. I need to rethink the strategy for the next kid.
Is anyone familiar with “major change”? My son was accepted to Economics(his first choice), but his portal message says that he can change his major under “update major”. The portal lists the majors that he can change into.
I am surprised to see this as those choices include competitive majors like Computer Science. I thought a student gets accepted to a certain college at UCSC(Mybe a student gets accepted to the school itself?)
Thanks!
@hoppy1, UCSC just admits to the university (with the exception of the engineering school, which is a little more restrictive). Incoming freshman declare an intended major, but then have to go about taking qualifying courses for that major. If they pass those classes with a given GPA, then they can petition to be accepted into that major.
@MelloG
Thank you!
That will give him more time to think.
@stc9991 Yeah we are fortunate we only have one. And my husband with his profession ( CPA) started at 529 plan when our son was 15 months old making it possible by the time he was ready to apply to college for him to go anywhere that he chose to go as long as he could get into it no matter where it was. I think if I mention the names of the other universities that he has been accepted at on the East Coast I think they remove them on the site. I’m not sure. But they are actually much smaller campuses since he knows he does much better in a smaller learning environment. He is still waiting since he was deferred from his number one choice, but the close runner-up only has 1500 students. But as I’ve mentioned as he did say if he were to get into Santa Cruz, it would actually be the only university that he would consider staying in California for even though he applied to a few other UC’s and a few Cal states.
@leanne07 Well if the decision is not to go please let them know ASAP because those that are waitlisted are counting on those who decide not to go because then it opens up spots for those who were waitlisted. My son has always wanted to go to school on the East Coast and has been accepted at a few universities there. But he said the only university that would have him think about staying here in California would be if he got into Santa Cruz .
@Andreq how about you stop pressuring people, including your son who clearly wants to go to uni on the East Coast? lol, I am well aware of the waitlist hoping to get in, but I do not intend to give up my spot “ASAP” when I am still waiting to hear about my options.
@UndyingFlame How do you know the waitlist is random?
@leanne07 WOW! Seriously? All I’m doing is repeating what two other people on this thread said because to be honest I hadn’t even thought about it until they had mentioned it. And yes they commented to somebody who’s child isn’t that interested in attending. My goodness… I think somebody needs to go and maybe have a piece of chocolate or something… Or go and sit by a delicious smelling Yankee candle taking in the aroma and relax. Instead of getting on my butt when all I was doing was doing what two other people have done and I have no idea whether they got chewed out. And by the way I’m not pressuring my son at all. Not in anyway. He actually just said as he was just leaving that he never really realized how disappointed he would be if he didn’t get in until now that it happened. So I told him,” Hey, there’s a positive…you weren’t denied… “ Do not assume you know me just because of what I posted. Sheesh!
Accepted!!
CSU/UC GPA; 3.65
SAT: 1450
Major; Computer Science
@Andreq is a classic helicopter parent. Lol.
Honestly the fact that I got into UCSC and Davis makes me think I’m not going to get into any of the others considering all the theories about yield and such lol
