UC Santa Cruz Class of 2022 Applicant Thread

@jjkmom it sounds like a great visit, even in the rain. I’m sorry you missed the BSOE presentation, though. I think it was a highlight of our day. The room was packed but Associate Dean Larrabee did a really good job answering everyone’s questions and going far beyond. We all really liked her. I think we were leaving on our tour - right around 10 am - as you were arriving.

Just learned that one of my friend’s son (also my DD’s friend) is still on waiting list. He really wants to attend UCSC and I don’t know how likely is he going to be accepted. His stats is similar but a bit lower than my DD, ~3.7 WGPA, ~1400SAT, Eagle Scout, MUN, Varsity Tennis, applies to non-impact major Sociology.

Is anyone else Regents/honors? Just wondering if you got anything besides the email notice? For UCSB, there was a reception, but we haven’t seen anything from UCSC.

I got waitlisted for Computer Science Game Design.(it could have been my second major cognitive science)

Either way my stats are:
UC gpa: 3.52
Sat: 1320
EC’s and essays were average

wondering what my chances are of getting in? or is it randomly drawn at Santa Cruz?

Hi, @itsatoughlife I also wanted to find out more about waitlist status. My DD has two good friends on waitlist.

According to last year’s CDS; 10378 students were waitlisted; 6038 accepted to be on waitlist; 2236 got admitted (over 37%) but for 2016-2017, 4097 got admitted out of 5707 waitlisted students (over 71%) and for 2015-2016 and 2014-2015 no waitlisted. I think it depends on how many admitted students decided to enroll. Many students applied to more schools this year just to be safe, and I really hope people can hurry and submit their SIR or decline so it help school to decide how many waitlisted students can be admitted.

Hey guys, my friend got a email from UCSC that said “Santa Cruz offer—response requested” but she got rejected from UCSC already? Does anyone know what this means? Is she accepted to UCSC then? We’re so confused on how this works. Thanks!

@imobamaself: What kind of offer from UCSC? Does it say offer of admission? What does the email exactly say?

@Gumbymom it said “please take a look at our majors, or you can be considered an undeclared student. If offered admission to our campus, you will be considered for a scholarship ——-, you must enroll full time any UCSC to maintain the eligibility for this scholarship. For eligible students you may as UCSC to your FASFA and a conditional award will be made upon admission. If you’re interested in this opportunity, please email the admissions representative.” Something like that

Well maybe they have more spots available than anticipated? Is your friend an International applicant? They should email UCSC and get the details if they are interested. There was a similar offer made to International and OOS students last year. According to this calendar, they should be releasing some waitlist acceptances today. My question is at what time though?

Only waitlist rejections today

Guys the calendar changed. They might be releasing acceptances on 4/25 now lol

Saw the calendar change too … more waiting sigh

What do you mean by waitlist rejections?

What do you mean by waitlist rejections?

@mhaze there was a mistake on the calandra that said that they were giving out rejections last friday

So appreciative of all of your help @Gumbymom! Anxiously awaiting waitlist results today, though it appears that based on history, only those who appealed their waitlist decision will hear or receive an acceptance today? The website seemed to specifically say that they would not accept any waitlist appeals. UCSC is my D’s top choice. Should she not get off the waitlist, her remaining options are Chico and Linfield College in Oregon. She’s not a party girl and has been met with raised eyebrows from everyone she has told (that she’s considering Chico), adults and peers alike. She’s concerned that that would be the reaction she would always get, even post college. She also feels like she worked too hard to “settle” for Chico, but these are her options. Do you have an opinion on the two schools? Her major is Psychology followed by a masters in Pediatric OT. Thanks so much!

@mhaze:

  1. Do not let other people influence her choice in regards to Chico State. My younger son is a student at SDSU which everyone considers a “party school” although that stigma goes back at least 20 years and I frequently like to correct individuals that still perpetuate the wrong information especially when they do not know what they are talking about.
Any school can be a “party” school and no one should look down on Chico state which has a very good reputation and a great option for your D.
If you want more information, a frequent poster @NCalRent had a son whom just graduated from Chico and could give you some helpful information about the campus.

  2. Tell your D that one person’s “settling” school is another’s Dream school, so she should be happy to have options. Chico will give her a great education as long as she is willing to take advantage of the opportunities that are available. She will be a “big fish” in a small pond which will allow her to excel and get into a competitive OT program.

If have no knowledge or information in regards to Linfield so I cannot comment on that school.

Hopefully she will hear some good news about UCSC’s waitlist and there were be many admits from the WL this year.

Best of luck to your D and tell “bloom where planted”.

Thank you @Gumbymom !

My brother in law is a Linfield grad from a long time ago. To this day, he says he loved the school but, regrets the debt he incurred to attend. As for Chico, I agree with @gumbymom . As she notes, my son is a recent grad and he LOVED it. Yes. there are parties but. that isn’t all Chico is about. They have an honors program that may interest your daughter and give her some cover from how her friends and family perceive the school.

Good luck with the decision.
