CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO GOT INTO CAL!!!!!

Bruinmichelle, I can say without a smidgeon of doubt that Berkeley has to be the absolute most intellectually vibrant community on the planet...If you have any questions about it feel free to ask me because I have spent quite a bit of time there working with some activist groups. There are more bookstores per capita there than any other city in the nation and after sf it has the highest population density in CA...meaning that it's always hustling and bustling...it's as urban as it gets...(you should definitely go there if that's your thing)

As far as the campus goes, it's ridiculously beautiful and very conducive to learning...It has the largest academic library in the country after harvard and yale...and the professors there are nothing short of genius and not rude at all...the people who go there are also amazing...I kid you not you could probably learn more on the sidewalks of the city of Berkeley than you can at most universities, I swear even the trasients have PH.D's....whatever your choice you can't go wrong...Good Luck

rejected from berkeley, for some reason ucla has yet to give me a response yet, and its friday night, what do you guys think? fluke?
i have like a 3.7 or something, but im only taking calculus 1 right now

Mansoor, thanks for accomodating me. You obviously love it there....I assume you're a student, correct? I have a hundred questions, but I'm just not sure that Berkeley is a good fit for me. I've spent my whole life on the beach and with the proximity of UCLA to Santa Monica, I'm not so sure I'd give all that up to go to a school I know very little about. It's a "know of" and not "know" situation. lol

But your enthusiasm is infectious. I have been "unofficially" offered a full-ride (minus Work Study award) at UCLA and I have yet to hear from Cal regarding their Financial Aid opportunites.....

Frankly, I'm just thankful enough to get into both very excellent schools at this point.......when I'm a little more sober (in mind, not inebriation that is) I'll be able to make a more informed choice......

I worry that I won't fit in for other reasons as well.....that are not superficial like weather and location.......it's a long story...lol

I just got shot down from Berkeley, understandable because I was fairly underqualified. Now I'm left to decide between UCLA and UCSD, which will be a tough decision because both have a fair amount of good aspects.

i am not smart so ucb should not belong to me
damn i got rejected by ucla. i have to live with all those crazy people now...it will make myself crazy one day.

yidong, congrats bro...you should be happy...you got into Cal !
I don't know about ucb < ucla....i would not say that. Don't worry much about the crazy smart people at Cal...if you work super-hard you can catch up.

By the way, have you heard from UCSD?....do you know for CS/CE...UCSD=UCLA....are you considering it?

I got accepted into both UC Irvine (ICS) and UC Berkeley (CS) and I can't decide between the two.

UC Irvine has an excellent ICS school and is only an hour away from home. UC Berkeley has the prestige. I know it's not good to go to a school based solely on prestige, but to turn down a school of such high caliber just feels wrong, and I dont know if I will regret it in the future.

How often do people turn down the top UCs for a "lower" UC? Where would you go?
