UC Transfer Applicants - Come Join

So as soon as you get going at UCLA your gonna motor, huh? That's understandable. No offense, guys, but I'd probably do the same thing. I might visit every once in awhile just to sprinkle some tid bits here and there. But as soon as I get that acceptance letter...."Austa la vista, baby!" (Is that spelled right?!?) UCLA here I come...Hopefully... :^/

So...Michelle, you've been analyzing and observing people on this message board?

lol...What do you think?....do I have a chance?

Collegebabe....you know what? I highly encourage you to look at last year's numbers for admits, percentage breakdown for each major. It was very encouraging. For some majors like Econ it was dreadful, something like 16% percent acceptance rate, but the break down of people is something like.....4000 applicants, 500 admits or some other arbitrary numbers.

If anyone has that link, could you provide it? Everyone will say a yay or nay by evaluating stats.....get it from the horsey's mouth. For instance, for mine English I was thinking I needed a 3.8 to get in, but it turns out the average GPA was around 3.5 which is completely doable, but not impossible. You may find that your major might have a GPA that's lower than yours and that will give you more confidence in the wait.

Like Aragorn said before the battle at Helm's Deep...."there's always hope". Until they say no, keep up the faith. Is the deadline May 15th? Heck, there's still plenty of time. Good luck!

i freaking love you lord of the rings! and i freaking love you lord of the rings [SCORE] soundtrack. Howard Shore is a god. haha sorry guys..i'm a fan.

With some apology.....I think I've seen those movies over 300 times in the last couple of years, let me explain.....You knw Starz? Well, for a time there they were showing The Two Towers and Fellowship of the Ring at least 4 times a day, so I'd come home, do homework or fix dinner while watching the movies..It was therapeutic for me......

Anyway...sorry, new subject. ;)

LOTR? Really? You being a fellow English major BM, I thought you would get bored with the Nintendo-style plot. You know, beat little monster1, beat little monster2, beat little monster3, beat big boss monster, then on to next level #2. I KNOW LOTR is much more, and I did (kinda) enjoy the first movie, but I have little interest in ever seeing the second or third. (yes, even taking Liv Tyler into account!)

I am told all the time that I just don't "get it" regarding the LOTR movies - as if a person couldn't genuinely dislike the LOTR movies once they "get it."

Anyone else STILL have yet to hear from UCLA?

Writingwell....being a lady, first and foremost, I will keep my commentary brief as I had already stated that I am a big fan and I "usually" don't let the expletives fly.....

Secondly, girls, why do guys take every opportunity to talk about themselves? Why is it that every "dammn" time you make a comment, opinion, or otherwise conjecture, they have to contradict, belittle, or outdo everything you've said? Trust me, it's an unfortunate reality. It's an unfortunate pandemic that really must be curbed. lol

Like I said...."new subject". This discussion board is about school, not on tearing apart some people'e "favorite things", am I right? You assume that as an English major that I would be bored by a cosmic fight between good and evil? Honey, that's real life, not fiction. Maybe when you're "my age" you'll see just how unbelievably life parallels one constant battle after another.....with plenty of marshes, pits, and "urichai" to face. lol

PS- I'm a History major as well.....does that mean I shouldn't enjoy Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Mummy, A Knight's Tale or a host of other "commercial" favorites? I would never want to get that jaded. I'm too sanguine to ever change...call it your "inner beachgirl".

writingwell, maybe u should try reading the LOTR books. They're a lot better, but the movies are great too.

and, i am also still pending for ucla.

haha.. pretty funny and odd that you would react this way considering your "lighten up" posts in other threads. I wasn't putting down your affinity for LOTR - only anticipating the onslaught of D&D nerds and melodramatic goths who feel the need to inform me of what I am "missing." So, it is irrelevant to say I thought the LOTR movies were boring? And that I also watch Starz? And that I do homework or fix dinner while watching Humphrey Bogart movies? And that Woody Allen films are therapeutic for me? Yeah, you're right. My bad.

And speaking of "Honey":
My darling bee, I would invite you over to my hive so that you might taste my honey, but I've been making honey since Nixon was president and feel that it may be too much for you.

"Secondly, girls, why do guys take every opportunity to talk about themselves? Why is it that every "dammn" time you make a comment, opinion, or otherwise conjecture, they have to contradict, belittle, or outdo everything you've said? Trust me, it's an unfortunate reality. It's an unfortunate pandemic that really must be curbed. lol"

according to my human sexuality textbook, guys would always try to attack each other to establish a patriachial ladder, while girls always try to build rapport, lol.

BruinMichelle are you saying (not you personally, but in general) History majors should not enjoy Raiders of the Lost Ark?

Allena....yes. That's exactly it. Following Writingwell's logic, yes.

Writingwell, how nice of you to condescend to spend your time with us "young", uneducated dullards. Listen, you attacked something very personal to me, that's all. I was talking to Collegebabe and then you chime in stating that because I'm an English major, I could/should have found it boring? I'm a jazz singer....does that mean I shoulnd't listen to CCR? I play the piano, does that mean I shouldn't love Yo Yo Ma? I'm a cook, does that mean I shouldn't go to In and Out? lol

I don't understand.....if you're old enough to be my father...then, why are setting such a great example for us youngins? I didn't address you in any way that should promote any animosity from you, yet you tore into two things, to my recollection that are a part of me. Did I take it seriously? Yes, too much so. No worries....once more, new subject. This argument is getting as old as...well......

I think we're running out of pressing issues and just "talking amongst ourselves", whihc.....I'm finding is not such a good thing. I for one like this site because we talk about schools and rejoice when we all get into our first choice schools collectively. That was fun for a time...However, has anyone else also noticed how few UC people we have now? Ones that at least post regularly?

Blackdream, once again....you proved my point, thank you....lol. Good luck at Cal!

heh, i am probably not going to cal anyway. I am still waiting for privates.

BM, Sorry if I offended; maybe you over-reacted? And Please, try not to put words in my mouth -I never said what you "could" do (ability) or what you "should" do (propriety) in liking anything. I said that I thought you WOULD be bored w/plot in a movie, as in having an inclination; It's unusual that I hear differently from English majors...Other than you, I haven't talked to any, Tokiens fans or not, that LOVED the LOTR movies.

I made no high/low culture distinctions...never thought peferences to be inferior or superior; please, don't take it so personally...you're still the bee's knees.

Daamnit...UCLA is still lagging.

Any one else still waiting for ucla?

A much more relevant and striking exception:

UCSB's prejudice against transfers with loads and loads of units.

I have 165 transferrable units and they just got around to admitting me. Must be that CCC thing working for me.

stillll waiting for ucla
