UC Transfer, chance me?

I’m an OOS ~> CCC ~> UC Transfer. I will be considered in-state and a CCC Transfer.

Applying for: UC Berkeley (Engineering Science: Engineering Math & Statistics), UC San Diego (Engineering Science: Structural Engineering), UC Santa Cruz (Computer Engineering). All for Fall 2017.
Transferable GPA: 3.69/4.0
Schools I’ve attended: CUNY: New York City College of Technology (CUNY: NYCCT), Moorpark College, Evergreen Valley College (EVC; Currently attending Evergreen Valley College)

ECs (Won’t go into Detail for these it would be a bit much to explain; however I will list a general overview of my ECs):

-Member of Phi Theta Kappa
-NASA/California Space Grant Consortium Award of Excellence
-EVC Honors’ Institute Membership
-CUNY: NYCCT Dean’s List
-Member in a minority outreach program for African Americans on EVC campus
-Service Learning mentor on my campus; taught the first semester of algebra based physics.
-NASA/California Space Grant Consortium intern. Me and my team did research in Microcomputers and Robotics on EVC campus.
-EVC Math Tutor; eligible to tutor Calc 1 and Calc 2 in the Math Resource Center. (Can’t go any higher because they don’t allow it at this center)
-EVC Physics Tutor; eligible to tutor the first and second levels of Calculus Based Physics at the Math Resource Center.
-EVC Veterans’ Tutor; eligible to tutor all levels of mathematics (Calc 1, 2, 3, Linear Alg, Diff Eqs) in the veterans center separately
-CUNY: NYCCT Emerging Scholar; did research in Chaos Theory.
-Assigned an Independent Research project on Chaos Theory.
-CUNY: NYCCT Honors’ Scholar; did research in Thermodynamics.
-Assigned an Independent Research project on Thermodynamics.
-Founding Secretary of the Comp Sci Club on EVC campus.
-Treasurer of the Honors Club for Fall 2015 - Spring 2016 on EVC campus
-Secretary of the Honors Club for Fall 2016 - Spring 2017 on EVC campus

Personal Statement: I’d like to say these are solid. Lets just leave it at that.

Honor’s Designation on the following courses:

PHYS 1441: Physics 1.3 (Completed; First Semester of Calculus Based Physics)
COMSC 75: Computer Science I (Completed)
COMSC 76: Computer Science II (In Progress; equivalent to COMPSCI 61B)

Other (For UC Berkeley):

I’ve explained my grade dip in my application which was due to family related circumstances. At CUNY: NYCCT I had a 3.98 GPA, at Moorpark College I had a 2.93 GPA and my GPA at EVC atm is 3.727.

By the time I transfer I will have completed two “additional recommended coursework”. The classes that I will have completed are MATH 55 and COMPSCI 61B. Currently COMPSCI 61B is in progress

How am I looking right now? I feel like I’m going to get rejected from UC Berkeley and UC San Diego because of my GPA :frowning: My main goal is UC Berkeley.

Alright, so I don’t know toooo much about transfers so I’ll just set that disclaimer. But, I’ll try and do what I can.

For Berkeley - You’re going to be really on the low end of their admit, from 3.66-4.0. Your ECs might be able to pull you through, because those look really solid to me. But I’ll guess you don’t get in here, based mostly on the competitiveness of transferring into any of their CS programs.

For UCSD - I’ll guess that you get in here, but not definitely. I think your ECs can get you above enough of the other applicants to outdo your GPA being a little on the low end here, and if you’ve got a good explanation for the dip at moorpark that only makes your case stronger.

For UCSC - I’ll say accepted, pretty safely here.

Hi @Plumbus ,

I’m not doing CS and I’ve heard the major I’ve chosen is not nearly as competitive as the other engineering majors at the engineering school at Berkeley. However, I do believe my GPA is going to be the cause of my rejection.

@boredengineer Whoops, sorry. I just saw your UCSC major. All the berkeley engineering majors are pretty tough to get into, more so than the main school. While math engineering may be marginally easier to get into than EECS, it’s still going to be among the more difficult majors in the school.

@Plumbus

Yeah. I’m hoping they really take the personal circumstances I’ve had to go through during my time in moorpark into account. That’s going to be critical in my admissions.

There’s no info on my major for cal >_<
