Hey!
I plan on going to a community college then transfer to the UC’s. I am really passionate about computer science and plan on majoring in CS. I am an above the average student in my high school. I completed my high school 12th grade in India due to some problems and unfortunately got stuck here due to the covid-19 pandemic. SO I am not really aware of the chances and routes to college, so I researched a lot and the 2+2 program really caught my attention.
I thought I would go to some low-rated colleges in India or something and truly believed I couldn’t study in the UC’s. But this option really does give me hope that I have the chance to pursue my dream still. I haven’t applied for any college in the US becoz since the 2020 India’s situation was bad and I was home quarantined mostly for safety so didn’t think there was a chance I would fly but I would be coming back home soon before the next academic year i suppose. But I am not sure how the whole system works. What are the units? and how many classes are allowed to be taken per quarter and etc…? Can someone tell me the basics of community college and guidance to transfer to the UC’s ( esp UCLA, UCSD, UC Berkley, UC Irvine). Those who have successfully transferred in the CS major, can u tell me what classes u took and how did u plan?
I saw the syllabus for calculus 1 and calculus 2, I have already learnt that in my 11th and 12th grade in India and pretty strong in that for the most part, just need a bit more practice in integral parts. SO how can I skip Cal 1 at least and get time to do the other courses? or do u think I should still do Cal 1 and get a good grade helping my GPA in the end?
And Is it necessary to do the IGETC and Major prep? I mean the major prep alone for CS is huge and IGETC has some un-related areas for the major I am planning to take so I was a bit confused on what to plan? I actually could have got most of the answers to the questions above if I was in California, because I could visit the campus and talk to the counselor or someone but since I am across the world, i really hope someone can help me out. I can work hard and am willing put my 100% in everything I do and supposed to do in order to reach my goal but I am also aware of how competitive it is to get a CS major.
