My daughter is transferring to UCSB and I did go to an transfer open house with her. As a freshman she attended SFSU and I went up with her to orientation. Are any of you transferring having your parents attend orientation with you? My daughter kind of wants me to go but she is not sure...

What do you think?

A few parents went to the CalSO day for Berkeley and they even had special presentations for them, but honestly…I think you should let your daughter to do this alone and spread her wings. She’ll meet friends!

^^^ I agree. This should be more of a solo mission. Not having you there will force her to meet people and begin making friends.

I’m going but no way I’m with my daughter. I’m dropping her off - she’s spending the night, and the next day she has stuff all day. I’m going to a half day parent orientation, and then I will leave with my other daughter (who will be shopping). Do not go around with her, she will feel uncomfortable, and it’ll be kind of weird.

you should both go, just not together. She should have some space to do things herself, while you get information you need to stay involved.

Maybe attend whatever parent events there are and enjoy being in Santa Barbara the rest of the time.

I am leaning towards her going at it alone…don’t want to be to much of a helicopter mom as she will be a junior haha…but deep down…I really want to go!!

If they have a parent section go to that. Just drop her off and don’t get out of the car. She’s not going to be where you are.

Some UCs don’t allow parents to attend orientation, but as a transfering junior myself… I would not want my parents coming. It’s nice to take charge of something on our own!
