Uc?

I tried to think of a clever title, but I figured - eh - two letters can grab more attention than a long sentence could. I posted my stats before, but that time I was in a rush and didn't include information that could've altered my chances. Therefore, here I go again. Note that below the small-sized fonts define classes that are not academic or stats that are irrelevant to college administrations.

I haven't been able to do a lot since I had no ride or car. My family isn't exactly the richest family in the world. :/ So, I had to work instead.

I want to major in Accounting, Business.

Berkeley/UCLA: match
UCSD: safe match - safety

The rest are safeties.

You shouldn't have trouble with ANY of them as long as you write something on the essay. I think you're good enough for a lot of the top privates from 10~20 on the rank.

you are pretty much safe, and i know what you mean. i don't really ever have a ride because my parents work and i can't walk so my ecs are pretty bad.

Thanks, everyone.

Which is the better school for Accounting and Business? UC Berekely or USC?

And caligurl, yay (depending on how you look at that)! I live in California too. :)

Berkeley, but you get admitted to a pre-major, not business itself. Getting into the actual business major is said to be really hard.

Oh, really? I hadn't heard that. Thanks for informing me. So, when I fill out my applications, I should enter as Undecided?

By the way, does anybody think I can get scholarships to anywhere? :p

^ When applying to Berkeley, apply as "Undeclared - Pre-Business Administration". You will then apply to Haas for your junior year.

It's very competitive, but if you do get in, they give you business cards to give recruiters during interviews that say: "B.S. Business Administration Candidate" (or something like that)...LOL

Oh and UC Berkeley >>> USC.

Oh, yeah. I heard about those business cards. :P

UC Berekely may be way better than USC, but UCB is way too far from my house, and I want to go where I can visit my family on a regular basis and not have to drive six hours in traffic to get to family. USC is like 20 minutes away. :p It's hard to decide. :(

^ Southwest has cheap flights from Burbank to Oakland when you book in advance...plus, you can sign up for their Rapid Rewards program and get free flights.

You don't need a car in Berkeley. You can take BART to and from the campus to the airport.

Also, I had friends from L.A. area that had cars up in Berkeley...I'd get rides from them every so often.

Cheaper that $20 for gas for traveling from USC down to LA?

I mean, I'd rather go to Berkeley, but our family gathers a lot during weekends. Or at least my mother's side. Plus, I'd like to have a car to drive to various places. My cousin right now goes to Pepperdine, and he can't get anywhere unless someone else drives him.

Nah, but think of it, man...you're going away to college! Public transportation in the Bay Area is way better than L.A. You can go into S.F., go to S.F. airport, Oakland airport, go to a Raiders (at your own risk) or Athletics game all from BART.

I encourage you that if you'd rather go to Berkeley, at least apply and give it a visit (preferably by airline)...This will give you a sense of what it's truly like.

Good luck either way you choose.

Thanks. :) I might go after SATs are done. The only school I've visited is Pepperdine. :p

Again, thanks for all your help.

You know USC is in the ghetto, right? LOL...It's like 180 degrees from the setting at Pepperdine. Visit both USC and Berkeley.

Really? I heard USC is "gorgeous." Isn't that where they shoot all of the Yale movie scenes?

From the movies and television shows I've seen, USC looked pretty good. And my grandmother says Berkeley looks a bit too simple. Maybe I'll just ditch both and go to UCLA. lol

NOOOO, not UCLA! UCLA sucks. The campus of USC is goregous. The surrounding area off-campus is bad. Same could be said for Berkeley with large homeless population, but at least Berkeley is a "college town".

That's what I've heard as well, but coming from someone who actually attends UCB, I'll take your comments into great consideration. How's UCB overall? Good teachers, good peers?

Haha. I used to attend Berkeley. I graduated in 2000. Faculty is fantastic. You are with very high caliber students so the academic competition can be too intense for some. This is especially true for pre-med, and pre-business majors. Which, come to think of it is what you're interested in.

I mean, I had an organic chemistry final where some idiot pulled the fire alarm after he was done either because he aced the test and didnt want to allow others to finish, or bombed it...LOL. They actually have a policy with fire alarms during finals...at least when I was there. I majored in Chemical Engineering, and since it was smaller, people were less competitive and so helped each other out.

Competitive? The people there sound scary, as if they would rip off my homework to get further ahead in the class than me. I've seen some girls like that in my class. I hope the environment isn't like that.

But I'm more interested in the social life than the academic life to be honest. :p

Haha...some students are. But on a whole, it's a supportive environment. Socially it's great. Berkeley has tons of cafes and restaurants around the campus that people meet to study/socialize. Also, the football stadium is right above campus and the town really comes to life on game days. There is a moderate greek scene. You can hike in the hills above campus. Take BART into San Francisco for a day trip. Plus, the residence hall communities are quite large and there are coed floors. I'm not sure about the residence halls at USC, but I imagine they're similar.
