Just wondering, but since they're both UC, how come one operates on the quarter system and the other doesn't? weird.

cuz the semester system is what the ivy leagues use =)

so why does the calendar a school uses mean it is IVY? Geez, Dartmouth uses a differing system than Penn and so forth. What are you speaking about here?

haha, ivy league...
I personally like the quarter system more, although it is the synonym of stress.

All of the schools are independent of one another, really. Does it really seem weird?

Berkeley is the only one of the UCs to use the semester system. Every other one uses quarter. Not to mention quarter systems differ from each other. Ie) U Penn's quarter system is different from the UC's.

Semester systems allow you to learn more information for the course. Quarter systems--the info is more rushed and you can take more units because the classes aren't as stacked with work.

Once upon a time (30+ years ago), the situation was flipped: Berkeley was the only school in the UC system to use quarters, and every other campus used semesters. It looks like Berkeley just likes to be unique.

UC Berkeley is NOT the only UC that uses a semester system. UC Merced is on a semester system as well.

Then we better change to a trimester system while it's still hot.

UC Merced is open now???? Wow, totally forgot about it..............

Yeah, the first class ever starts this fall.

It will be open in the fall, so, at this moment, it is the only UC on semesters. Soon enough, though, this will change, and Merced will join Berkeley in the semester department.
