Hello,

I am a high school senior, and I am choosing between UCD and UCI. I will be majoring in biological sciences and I am Pre-Med. Does anyone have any advice about which school is better in biology programs? Which school has more/less Pre-Med competition? Which school has higher med school acceptance rates?
The most important thing to me is not having too much competition because I don't do too well.
I have applied to be in the Honors programs at both schools, but I do not know if I will get into them. Any advice on if these will help?

General advice for this choice I need to make?

Thanks.

anybody have any advice???????
please help mee

well i think you should look into which university is more suitable for your major. Might want to find list of the top schools in graduate programs for the subject of your major (which is often taken as an indicator for how good the same or similar undergraduate majors should be). I'm also choosing schools and I've been more inclined toward Davis and thats why i know more on-hand about it than Irvine. Now, I know UCD is ranked very highly in many biological sciences, for example. I've heard that the medical school facilities are quite accessible for, say, pre-med students wanting to get some work experience. UCD is ranked higher than UCI overall this year (according US world and news reports), but barely - 42 vs 44. Check Washington Monthly and other sources. Overall, though i don't think rankings between such closely regarded schools should really be an issue unless you are down to the wire between choosing them. You really gotta visit the schools and get a feel for the environment too. Take a tour there and ask the person about the classes (if not sure if its possible at these two schools, but try to arrange to get someone within your major or a similar one). Do the classes incorporate group-based learning, do they teach valuable communication and learning skills, are there many assignments given for classes like, say, physics or essays for English/Reading comp and are these assignments valuable and discussed thoroughly during discussions (if offered), are the lectures cluttered or not and does it remain this way into uppergrad <<maybe ask these types of questions, preferably to someone within your major. Also try out the foods at the cafeteria, talk to the people and see if they are friendly, walk around the campus - at UCD, for example, can u imagine urself biking around that campus or tolerate UCI's relatively small campus size? Outside the campus - can you tolerate UCD's small town atmosphere or are you going to be able to escape UCI's suburban confinement and go out to Newport Beach or the various other destinations that are near (and, of course, would you enjoy these spots?) ? Go visit the campuses and try to get a feel for this sort of stuff.
