I got into both schools, and I am from the same town PSU is in. Ultimately I want to get into a management position in the Walt Disney World Resort, which is why I originally applied to UCF. Does anyone have an opinion on which school I should choose? It'll be more money for me to go to UCF, but do you think it'd get me ahead in the Disney Industry?

Also, on my acceptance letter from UCF, it says they have on file that I want my major to be event management... does anyone know if that means I got into Rosen?

when you two say disney management, do you mean working at the parks or attempting to become an executive, if its the latter all three of us have the same passion.

I’d like to be in management either in the parks, the hotels, or involved in events at the resort. When I was little I told people I wanted to own Disney :] Where are you guys going to school?

I would recommend UCF. I’m sure you would have better connections over there with Disney than Penn. State or any other school not in Florida. Florida State would also be a great choice also. They have that internship program that is available to pretty much anyone, I hear it’s pretty fun. Do you know how much it would put you in debt? If it’s going to be over $75k I would consider Penn. State then. The main reason is because the hospitality industry isn’t a high paying industry until you become a GM and above really. Penn State’s program isn’t bad at all and you can just do the internship program at Disney during the summer and network with managers over there. Best of luck.

I’d probably have to take out around $10,000 a year. The internships through Penn State are good too, but I throught maybe I’d be more ahead if I went to UCF because I wouldn’t be limited to working there just for a semester.

Rough estimate for you would be a $40,000 debt after graduation without including interest. Well, most internships are during the summer but you can always co-op during the fall/spring semesters. However, you have to take into consideration that you would have to study during your time there and might have to work to have some allowance money. I just read that UCF is around 30-40 minutes away from Disney World which is quite far since it would sum up to 1-1.3 hrs round trip. Would you bring your car to Florida with you cause I’m sure you wouldn’t want to do multiple transfers on a bus to get to work. It really is your decision and you don’t have to just work at Disney World to get an executive job there. You can just go to Penn State and work on-campus or off-campus at a restaurant/hotel for money during your Fall and Spring semester. During the summer you can go to Disney World and do an internship there or you could take a year off of school and do a co-op for an entire year at Disney.

I’ve been telling people since I was young that nothing would make me happier in life than to manage the day to day operations of a Disney–yes, specifically disney–theme park or hotel. Maybe our paths will cross some day!

Jimgotkp: you’re right… I’m starting to really think about this and I’m probably going to go to PSU and at least get some of my GenEd courses done and then if I still feel I should go to UCF, I’ll transfer…

Does anyone know requirements to transfer into UCF from an out of state school? the info on their website was transfering from a florida college.

ds143: Agreed! What could be better than working at the most magical place on earth/ making people have special memories?! Congrats on Cornell too, thats awesome!!

Im currently a PSU student, and i am going to transfer to somewhere in Florida, and UCF is one of my options.
To transfer to UCF you just need complete atleast one semester, and you just send them your PSU transcripts, High School Transcripts, and SAT scores.

oscarcollege: If I sent them my SAT scores and my High School Transcripts already this past fall, do I need to send them again next fall if I decide to transfer?

Also, may I ask why you’re transfering/ what your major is?

Im not sure if you would need to send them again. I know of a friend who transfered from a school in Cali to Hofstra, and they looked at her application from the year before, but she had to send High School transcripts again, along with college transcripts.

My major right now i accounting, but if i do get into UCF i would probably go with Finance, International Business or even hotel management.
