UCF Transfer English Major -- Social Life Concerns

Hey, next year (Fall 2013) I will be a transfer student at UCF. I am obtaining my AA at Valencia.

I'm really worried about the social life. I am not into clubs or bars. I like books, movies, art and just talking over a nice meal. It seems like everyone who goes to UCF is really into partying and I am just not like that.

The best way to describe myself in this case is a Rollins College personality with a Public University budget.

Is there a large group of people who'd rather go to a book reading than a bar?

Not that there is anything wrong with that! I'm just freaking out about the possibility of being a loner! Especially since I will be a Junior and everyone established there friends and social circles.

Thanks!

This is almost two weeks old and I don’t go to UCF myself, but I thought I’d weigh in.

One of my really good friends goes to UCF (although I’ve been trying to convince him to join me at FSU :D). He’s not the partier type whatsoever, and is a lot like you. He was in my AP English Literature class and he would debate with me all of the time about stories we had read.

UCF is, for the lack of a better term, huge. You’re going to find people who are into all sorts of things, whether that be partying or staying in and watching a movie or reading a book.

I share your anxiety, but I’m trying not to let it worry me too much. I’m not a partier either and am hoping that I can still find my niche at FSU.

Just my two cents!

What Robbeh said is true. UCF is a large school with all kinds of people. The thing is, no matter if you’re a party person or not, you still have to put yourself out there in order to meet friends. Join clubs, talk to people, don’t be shy. Partying or not is up to you. While a lot of people do like partying, there’s also a bunch that don’t.

I agree to what Mizzxvii said. I’m sure as to how large the student population at UCF is there are going to be students with the same interest as you. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a club or group dedicated to those who like books, movies and art as you have listed.

scat-- With 57,000 students I’m certain you will find one or two soul mates. Relax, sleep tight and enjoy your time at UCF.
