So I went to a summer information session, and the speaker there (I think he was an admissions guy) told us to get to know our regional admissions director. How well did you get to know your regional admissions director? I really have my heart set on UChicago, but I didn’t have a chance to meet mine there because he was on vacation. I don’t really know exactly how to start things off?
My son will be a 1st year this fall. We were told the same thing last summer, but we had no regional admission director at that time because someone had just left the position. We tried again at a local presentation, but we never did meet the person. It worked out fine for us, but maybe keep trying.
Sharijay: If you know your regional director’s name and email address why wouldn’t you send him an email expressing your regret that he/she was not there during the information session, but that you had a nice visit and you look forward to submitting an application. Perhaps you can also solicit any advice the person might have for you. Be polite and succinct.
I did. Will do! I just didn’t know if UChicago kids actually befriended or took their admission director to lunch. I wouldn’t want to bribe him with lunch, but I was thinking that if students actually befriended their director, he/she would get to really know who they are as a person and relay it to the admission counselor board.
Others weigh in and agree or disagree with me please, but my judgement is that you’ve made this contact which is good and responsible, now let it be. Follow up with what really matters which is submitting the best application you can. If the app is good, then the previous contact will reinforce the positive impression obtained from your “paperwork”. Best of luck to you.
I know this is pretty old but I knew my regional admissions rep fairly well. She graduated from my highschool, was friends with my college counselor, and we met each other in person at least 5 times.
