Glad they released this. Better late than never.
Warning: it doesn’t appear to have the updated ACT/SAT scores. Those are all from last year.
Varsity Athletics=72%
Is this for real?
It was 53% last year. This is for HS athletics.
Update: the remaining %'s for “Involvement in High School Activities” are same as last year. It’s very odd how they updated some info. and not others.
Interesting middle 50% didn’t change, but I guess statistically it wouldn’t.
The test score ranges are interesting and reinforce the fact that students who place too much emphasis on them at the cost of other aspects of their applications, can be disappointed.
As for student involvement etc., all these things are self-reported and school vary tremendously in terms of the standard of their varsity sports etc. I played rugby in high school and so few of us were interested, that almost everyone was deemed “varsity”. The same went for volleyball. It’s always difficult to decide what to make of this information.
Wasn’t the new SAT range reported to be 1430 - 1550 or something like that at admissions events? That’s what kids on Reddit were saying. Those ranges on the link above haven’t been updated, based on my printout from last year (Class of 2020). Would expect the ACT range to be pretty much the same but the new SAT should have resulted in different numbers.
Re the profile - it looks like the class is getting more diverse and more athletic. (My guess is the classes are getting wealthier too, but of course that would never be published.) Yes, varsity sports standards can vary from high school to high school, but going from 53% to 73% marks a change in the complexion of the class.
Also i think the number from different ethnic minorities are up as well.
The thing that escapes measurement is the inclination toward learning in the earnest Chicago tradition that brought each of these kids in their different categories to the University of Chicago. Varsity athletes could go lots of places, but these ones chose Chicago. The talented kids from these ethnic minorities also chose Chicago over other options. A melange of rich and poor from all across the continent, and increasing numbers from abroad, chose Chicago. Slightly more men than women chose Chicago. Reading the messages on this board of all the individual kids describing their travails and aspirations shows that they all saw something special about the University which suited each of them uniquely. Yes, it’s interesting to see those categorical breakdowns, but to me the categories are the least interesting thing about these kids.
Wow, does that mean Vandy has the highest stats now ( a 33-35)? I thought UC could would beat that.
The 20 ACT and the 1020 SAT stand out to me.
Vandy definitely goes for high stats above all else, they are known for that.
whats the point for them to put SAT scores range (admitted students) 1020-1600, is it part of their strategy to play around with numbers so they can get more and more applications? Cause it does not make sense for 1020 on SAT to get into such an elite school(unless big donor, celebrity’s kid or having something truly special…)?
Well, yes, exactly. If you have something truly special to offer, don’t think your SATs or ACT will keep you out. (But at that level it had better be truly “truly special.”)
It’s also the exact same range as for Class of 2020. They either didn’t update or the range is the same once you concord to the new test.
