Does anyone know if Legacy (parent did an MBA at UChicago) will give you an advantage?
Well, I did an MBA at UChicago and my husband did a PhD. We found that those “advantages” plus an ED agreement got our kid into UChicago last year :))
Thanks! But that is double legacy which is definitely a bonus. Were ya’ll active alumni if I may ask?
Sure - in our own way LOL.
How many Legacy applicants do you think there are per year?
You know that’s really a tough question as “legacy” is only one (and most likely small) bump an application can get? @JBStillFlying 's daughter may have been accepted without.
Smart, ambitious people often have smart ambitious children. Of course connections and privilege help too! I admire schools like Chicago (and Vassar and others) that are using their resources to expand the diversity of their privilege and connection pool.
Likely? That’s the first I’ve heard of that! What a way to string you along. When do we hear??
There is probably a small advantage for “legacy” but it might have more to do with just knowing the school better than the average applicant. That will manifest itself in the essays or other parts of the application that suggest a very good fit. I think our daughter’s year that was either not quite enough, or they just needed that little extra bit of love from her so that they were assured she was headed there and not somewhere else. When you apply EA, it can easily mean you have applied ED elsewhere. Our kid hadn’t done so, but UChicago didn’t know that.
Was the kid an athlete?
Probably the 17th based off past years. If so, they’re likely to post the admissions date this Monday, a week before.
Also, this has been asked in this thread about a dozen times by now, so for anyone else wondering about the date, just read the thread.
i’m just speculating (as almost everyone else has), but it could be the 15th. apparently some people have called the admissions office and have received that as an answer. but as previously posted, we’ll just have to wait until they make an official announcement about the date.
Hi everyone. Applied ED. I would guess the 14th or 17th would be when admissions come out, but that’s interesting to hear it could be the 15th. Good luck to everyone and try and stay calm this next week.
I am super nervous. Even though got accepted to Penn State already, this is still my top choice
At this point, worrying won’t help. I also got into my backup(UT) so hey, either way, we’re going to college. ?
Can i re-apply as ED II if i was deferred in ED I?
yes you can
^Not sure this is correct. The past couple of years, you had one shot at ED. Those deferred EA were given the option to switch to ED2 but that wasn’t extended to the ED1 deferrals - they stayed in the Regular pool. ED2 non-accepts, of course, don’t get deferred to Regular, but get waitlisted or denied.
Thank you!
No, you cannot. EDI is deferred to RD. EA can change to EDII if deferred.
At least that’s how it was for the c/o 2021.
