Does anyone have any other suggestions of schools similar to UChicago? I’m trying to find other schools to apply to now, following my Uchicago deferal!

@bonjour1: CMU has the academic rigor of UChicago, IMHO.

accepted!!! very confused bc i’m not particularly special, but i had a super unique essay so i guess that did it

Got in !!!
Stats :
SAT 1400
Grade IB : 41/42 (predicted grade)
Good luck everyone

@GryffinHunter at #459 - hard to know that one but you are probably facing better odds with ED2 than with regular.

@bonjour1 Daughter really liked Case Western for STEM and it was her #2. Similar student body and strong academics. I thought it had a nice “college town” pretty much across the street from the dorms; restaurants, museums, theatres, shopping, hospitals, little Italy, etc. Sears ThinkBox and entire campus integration with Univeristy Hopsital and Cleveland Clinic is pretty impressive.

Dang, it’s 0.5% acceptance after deferral for RD? That’s insane. I’m not doing ED 2, though, so I guess I might as well just accept the rejection.

@gugugu What in the world? What are your IB classes? My SAT superscore is 1550 and I will get much lower in the IB…

@mobamba Glad to hear. Where else are you applying? I got deferred.

I did test-optional and got deferred lol, I feel like my recs and essays were the reason why i didnt get rejected

Deferred :frowning: im so sad

Accepted for EA!

Chicago takes very few kids RD anyway…not 0.5% but I thought I saw low single digits for last year…but I have know idea how they treat their ED2 kids that were deferred from ED1. Maybe you could ask your guidance counselors to reach out to them because it would be a shame to give up ED2 somewhere else. Maybe they can get a feel for what your application was missing? I know someone who was deferred ED1 to ED2 at a different school and the guidance counselor was able to get some feedback. But this was from a boarding school, so not sure if they have special relationships with some of the admissions offices.

Deferred, but expected tbh

I was waitlisted through last year’s RD round and then rejected when I applied ED1. Has this happened to anyone else?

“I know someone who was deferred ED1 to ED2 at a different school and the guidance counselor was able to get some feedback. But this was from a boarding school, so not sure if they have special relationships with some of the admissions offices.”

This scenario is not even possible at UChicago, even if they did have special relationships with the boarding or other elite prep schools.

Deferred EA! I thought I was going to be rejected. They’re a reach school but they’re my top school so I’m reapplying EDII. Doubt I’ll get in but it’s worth a try.
Does anyone know the acceptance stats for deferred EA students who apply EDII?

Anyone accepted test optional? Our D applied EA test optional and was deferred. All is well, she was accepted to her #1 choice school ED in the meantime. We know they were interested, they asked D’s college Counselor for additional academic material and her 1st Q Progress Report comments for committee to further flesh our her application. If applying test optional, it seems they expect supplemental academic material to stand in for test scores. I don’t think test optional is a gimmick or limited to low income, rural, first generation, or they wouldn’t have wasted their time. D is White/Asian, selective private school, no aid, large east coast city. 3.98, all honors and max APs except on the math side (APs start in 11th though). Model UN (leader), food for thought (leader), reflection leader, music ministry, spectrum, native plant restoration project, theater set designer (head), track, literary magazine, extensive fine arts (included 15 pieces w artist statement for each). 10/10 recs. Counselor and consultant felt her essays were very strong. I think Chicago is a great school and I congratulate those who were accepted. However, there are many, many fine schools out there.

Just accepted EA, but did not receive any merit aid yet. Financial aid package is underwhelming and I also received a full tuition scholarship from Fordham, so hopefully UChicago can pull through with some more aid
