Any time! It was my pleasure, and good luck again! (With AP Lit, and UChicago!)
Do AO’s read apps on Saturdays
Given that my daughter got an email from her AO on Christmas day a couple of years ago, guessing that work on Saturdays is kind of no big deal for them.
@JBStillFlying that’s cool. I was worried that December 15, when most schools send out decisions, falls on a Saturday. And I guessed that it may cause them to delay the decisions till the following Monday. Thanks for your reply, seems like colleges may still send out decisions on 15th, Saturday
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but “mid-December” is almost certainly going to be the week of December 17th. I can’t see any precedent for them releasing decisions on a Saturday.
Everyone can check the last couple years on CC. Two years ago it was Monday Dec. 19th, after many other REA and ED decisions had already been released. Best to be a Polly Patient on this issue.
I just don´t get why they release their decisions near Christmas. It is just too much anxiety, stress, and for some people, heartbreak for a time as joyous as Christmas Day. Hopefully, that won´t be the case for us on this thread. @CollegeAdmInfo Likely letters are usually released around a few days before the day that decisions come out but that is usually for recruited athletes. Sometimes they can give likely letters to people who are interested in their activities that involve ¨trying out¨ like Band or Choir or Theater. If you want to be part of those things, you can send in a portfolio of your performance or express your interest in the optional video and do something unique with it. For me, I wanted to join their Gospel Choir, so I express my interest and actually sang them a song. Usually when a school knows that you are interested in participating in one of their activities, is more likely they will accept you.
@Youngmis123 - couldn’t agree more! LOL. D17 was deferred from EA on 12/19, and had to decide quick whether to apply ED2 before setting off for a very special and joyful Christmas holiday. Unfortunately, getting deferred from your #1 (or one of your #1’s in D’s case . . . ) stings a bit, regardless of the season. But the schools promise to give a decision before year end and I think most would appreciate the couple-weeks of notice in order to send off their RD apps.
In our case, we took it in stride with the hope that she’d end up somewhere great, and I was touched by her AO who sent an e-mail on Christmas Day letting her know that the EDII agreement had been received and added to the file. Her AO gave up a part of her Christmas so that D could rest a bit easier during ours. That was very kind of her.
hey! applying ED1 for psych/CS
im a first-gen college student and a female
i have 4.0UW and idk my weighted (10APs, 14+ DE)

@JBStillFlying Hello, please what are the meanings of D and D17?
D = daughter = D17 (graduated hs class of '17). Same person.
Okay. Thankssss
On likely letters. Last year my son received his via the portal (he was an athletic recruit) with no snail mail follow-up. With two kids at two universities and all correspondence other than recruiting, fund raising, and “acceptance bling,” in other words all official correspondence that is necessary for transacting business comes through the “official university e-method.” At UChicago that appears to be the portal pre-admission.
Hi I know this is incredibly late but I just stumbled across this forum due to my inability to wait any longer to find out about admissions decsions. UChicago is my first choice.
Stats:
Act- 33
GPA- unweighted 94, weighted 98
AP: Euro, Art history, APUSH, Bio, Psych, Lang, Comp Sci A (Gov, Econ, Lit, Studio Art 2D senior year)
Extracurriculars: Art club (PR then secretary), Jewish Student Union (treasurer then president), Code Club, School newspaper, Young Adults Advisory Council (community serivce at local library (secretary then president), Varsity Track (I suck at it though), Volunteered at a preschool for 2 years, started a program where high school students run art workshops at a nursing home, began a book club in my school
I also babysit and did an internship doing graphic design and animation this past summer
Awards: National Honors Society, Scholar Athelete, National Science Honors society, AP scholar with distinction
I’m a pretty typical middle class long Island applicant with immigrant parents
I did the first essay prompt- the wiritng a letter to an object- i did a string i wear around my wrist
I submitted an art portfolio along with my application - did anyone else do that? I would love to see other people’s portfolios.
Im applying as undecided
If anyone else cannot wait any longer, I would love to talk and freak out together
IDK if i did this right- its my first time posting my stats or anything like this
My twin brother and I (also female) are also applyign to uchicago! it is also my top choice!!
Just curious how many twins or even triplets have been accepted at U of C together?
@85bears46 I know of one set which graduated last year.
@Youngmis123 likely letters can be sent well before admission decisions and are issued by UChicago for athletes as well as non-athletes. My son received LL as recruited athlete as c/o 2021 via portal as well as snail mail.
Good luck to all !!!
Has anybody’s counsellor been requested to send in first quarter grades? Just wondering if they ask for those or hand out decisions and follow-up with a mid-year report.
@SirStencil
My daughter had her counselor send her 1st quarter grades since they were very strong. UChicago did not make a request for them though.
@SirStencil I emailed my regional admissions counsler and he said that first quater grades are not required
