Interesting! And a mystery. But the Chicago Maroon will hopefully have the numbers soon enough so perhaps we won’t have to wait too long for clarification or confirmation.
Is 2 pages too long for a LOCI?
Just keep it to one! Two pages is dragging on. Your admissions officer doesn’t want to read two pages or even need two pages. Your LOCI should be short, simple, and strong. Be concise
Ok thank you!
In case anyone is curious, overall acceptance rate remained at around 6%, while RD at 2%. ≈ 38.000 applicants.
Where did you get the 2% RD acceptance rate stat from btw?
Dean Nondorf hosted a “Welcome to UChicago, Class of 2025” session for admitted students and he told us there was approximately a 6% overall acceptance rate, with Regular Decision at 2%. 2,408 students were admitted out of 37,986 total.
From the Zoom session held on Sunday. I see swhs12 was able to reply with the stats.
Wow. Thanks to you and @ganseliesel for providing some additional verification.
If you apply to UChicago and plan on applying for FA, they waive your application fee. They do not need to know what your need is, but can see on the application if you chose to apply or not. At other need blind schools, if you have a application fee waiver, it says it on the front page of your application. True these schools are need blind, they do not see how much need you have, but from the first page of the application, you are telling them or not, you have need.
I’ve brought up this same point in previous years but other posters declare that this is a field that is read by the bursar only - not Admissions. Not sure if that’s true but have no way of knowing which fields on the CA or supplement that the AO has access to. After having received FA for several years now, I seriously wonder if checking the box provides much information. IMO, everyone should check the box and save themselves $70! Edit: excuse me, make that $75.
You can print out the entire application, the front page with your basic information (name, the email admissions use, etc…) near the bottom of that front page it states whether or not a fee waiver was used, and how the student qualified for it. Every admission rep can see that.
That’s what I was assuming - but we don’t know really know how the info gets to the admissions person; for instance, whether they view PDF’s or print outs or abbreviated fields or whatnot. I think they can actually tell more by the address and school attended than they can whether that box is checked.
You’re very welcome, JB. Tough numbers. Can’t wait to see what the Ivies will look like. Crazy year!
RD admit rate will be brutal for many top schools!
Does anyone know if we can find out acceptances by geographical location?
Has anybody been accepted from the WL with Fin Aid yet?
Yes. I recall several posts by previously-waitlisted admits who claimed to have applied for FA. However, it is definitely less likely a happening.
I’m also referring to those from the previous years. My speculation for this year is that the committee will start announcing (shortly) after Ivy Day as they have in the previous years. What are your thoughts?
That’s usually something that Nondorf will announce during Accepted events. Have you attended one of the virtual events this year yet?
Hi. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to send a second letter of continued interest because I’ve just received my midterm grade for a Differential Equations course I’m taking at Stanford. I did receive a satisfying grade but I’m not certain whether I’ll be sending it since I’m afraid of seeming too desperate lol.
I did apply as a Mathematics major and so maybe I could provide my AO with several reasons supporting my interest and aptitude?
