How competitive is admission into the UChicago debate team? Tried looking at recruitment through their website but it was down. Any person with knowledge of the team is welcome to comment! Thanks 
I don’t know about the “debate team,” but my son is on the “Moot Court” team and suspect it is similar. They have a call out in the fall, are interviewed, and selected. There is only so much funding to send teams to regional and national competitions, so space is limited. But, I suspect if you have any experience, you’ll have a good shot. My son did debate for one semester in HS, and was able to make the moot court team.
Parliamentary Debate Society seems to do well. Not sure about tryouts.
The only debate team at UChicago is the parliamentary debate team called the Chicago Debate Society, it does not have tryouts.
