Just glad there is no further deferral. That way my daughter can move on if she’s not accepted.
Why wouldn’t they at least announce when they are releasing? Very odd and quite different from the December release.
Apologize for being a Debbie Downer but in the absence of any build-up by the Admissions Dept. I’m wondering if it’s either the case that they have very few ED II’s (which seems odd given the number of EA/deferreds who switched to ED II), and/or they have very few admissions pertaining to this pool. If the former, then their big release dates in the future might be ED in Dec. and RD in March. If the latter, then they are probably just accepting from those who applied for the first time and waitlisting all the EA-deferreds. Hope I’m wrong, by the way.
@JBStillFlying
From what I have seen and thought about, analyzed in other colleges with EDII and looking at trends, I feel like the admissions will not be that large. It is an overall smaller pool than before, and most likely most of the kids admitted will be those who are applying for the first time and whose applications they have not seen yet. It will not be a large pool accepted, and typically, to any school like UChicago or any Ivy League, typically a deferral from EA will usually lead to a denial later on, as if you were not accepted before there is a only a small chance you would be accepted later as not much would likely change between your applications. I as well hope I am wrong.
The numbers I was “unofficially” provided were @ 350-400 in this round. This was a few weeks ago and yes, it will be this week, that is confirmed.
This will most likely be at 99%+ yield pending financial aid.
@JBStillFlying best of luck for your D and everyone else on here as well.
@bluepumes what time is late afternoon?
@fbsdreams can you tell us what source said 350-400? I feel like that is a smaller number than I had thought there would be…
Do you think UChicago contacted my counselor with my decision before it comes out?
@TheShortSon I would be very surprised. The only reason why they would contact might be athletics (I have no idea how athletics works) but for any other reason I can nearly guarantee that they will not.
Info from the UChicago Admissions Twitter…
ED 2 Decisions will be released on Wed, 2/15, in the late afternoon (central time)
Relieved to see an announcement! thanks for seeing that!
Welp, I’ll be on a plane with a massive jetlag when the descisions come out
How much harder do you guys think ED 2 will be compared to ED 1?
My counselor just submitted my mid year report. Will it have an effect on the decision coming out this Wednesday?
I don’t think it will impact anything one way or the other.
@fbsdreams I have something pretty bad on it, and I was wondering if they’d check it in time to change my decision before it is updated on my portal.
Im so nervous guys. I got deferred EA and I know it’s super difficult to come back from a deferral. I was a QB kid though, and Im wondering if maybe that prompted my deferral decision - since all QB kids who ranked UChicago get put into the EA pool whether they’re serious about attending or not. Im hoping this is the case and the fact that U Chicago is my first choice will make a difference.
Hmm. don’t you guys think that having a smaller application pool would be more advantageous because it will show from deferrals who is actually serious about attending? And maybe this is some wishful thinking, but maybe a small ED pool will yield higher because it’s not like they’re giving away too many spots without considering RD first. I think the kids who are really gonna have it tough this year are deferrals from EA that stuck to RD especially if people switched.
All I know is that I’m screwed if they use my mid year report, which was sent today, for my admission decision.
@amwarren, it all depends on how many are actually doing EDII. If they are willing to give away a few more spots for EDII and the pool is naturally smaller, than yeah a few of us have good chances. It all depends.
Overall, at this point almost all decisions are made everyone. For worrying students like myself, and parents on this thread, what’s done is done, and nothing is in our hands anymore.
If you are applying to Uchicago, it means you have done a lot right. To even get to this place is incredible, remember that. To get this far is something truly amazing. We put in the hours, we studied hard, and at the end of the day we will be rewarded, maybe with Uchicago and maybe with something else.
If you have worked hard enough to apply to Uchicago, it means that wherever you go you will work hard enough to get the most out of it and be happy. Please remember that.
@amwarren and @Projo1123, IMHO it can go either way. We’ll know once the dust settles.
