Should the UChicago supplemental essay be personal, or is more of a space to display writing skills and creativity (or both)? My reasoning being that the common app essay is supposed to be personal, leaving more room to just have fun writing in the supplemental essay.
I ask because I'm debating between two essay topics. One is about half done and is almost completely philosophical, whereas the other one, which I've yet to start, displays personal growth. Maybe "should" wasn't the best word, but I'm just wondering if the admissions office might have any preference.
Thanks in advance!

You really don’t need to talk about yourself as much as in the commonapp essay. The reason is that they mostly want to see your thought process, your creativity, your originality, persuasiveness, logic, and out of the box method. I think all of those factors say a lot about WHO YOU ARE without directly talking about yourself.
