UChicago finaid

So did anyone receive Uchicago finaid today via snail mail? The award has been sent through ur Chicago account. Mine trips balls... I'm disappointed, and this pretty much means I won't come to Chicago anytime soon. Wat about urs?

Mine wasn’t enough, but I’m writing a letter of appeal to see if they’ll reconsider.

My original estimate (got in EA) was that I would have a $5000 scholarship. I thought that would be all and kinda panicked. It was going to be very difficult but after talking to my parents about applying for outside scholarships and getting a serious summer job it was determined that I could go. Then yesterday they sent me a letter saying I didn’t have to pay quite that much. It’s not great but after preparing for so much extra effort I’m very happy. It will still be somewhat of a financial burden on my family and myself, but not nearly what it was.

^Are merit scholarships out for EA applicants?

Would love to know about what’s up with merit $$ for EA.
DS just got the FA letter (which was checked on line prior) and got zip —
Had hoped that there might be a little $$ for merit (well not a little lol) other than Nat. Merit… well it makes his decision alot easier IF all $$ (merit or otherwise) has been decided.
Will wait a little bit longer before notifying UofC about his decision (which is a no since it’s now 4th on his list, mainly because of $$). Luckily he’s heard from his other, higher ranking schools to give him the opportunity to make HIS choice.

I found out mine today on my account…i dont really know what to think of it…whats the avg UChicago grant like?

They’re giving me $36,000 a year in financial aid.

I’m getting almost 50k in financial aid.

I got $48,250 per year, my family makes ~$70k.

Applied EA:
I got a 10k university scholarship and 20k in grants.
Family makes over 100k.

I got $5000 - 3K in grant money, 2K for Nat’l Merit.

Crushed, because I was so excited to get into my first choice, and now I can’t afford it. Appealing like crazy.

I got about 41K in grant…and then with the loans they list with their finaid package, its almost 45K…my parents make 76K a year though, and have nothing to give me. But w/e, im attending next yr anyway.

I got 16k in grants. My parents can contribute 25k…so what, that takes me up to 41k? Now I’ve just got a difference of 19k. -____- I got a little bit in work study too, but ughhh.

I really want to go though, I think I’m going to try appealing.

I got absolutely no finaid and $5000 in merit aid… doesn’t even cover like, books and a meal plan I think… To be fair, I think my family’s income is somewhere around $200k, but the cost of living is high around here and I frankly feel guilty asking my parents to pay $55,000 a year… (They’re ok with it though, cuz they’re rankings-obsessed and the only significantly cheaper school I’ve gotten into so far is McGill, which they didn’t even want me to apply to so…)

wait, does the financial aid award get reevaluated every year for each school right?

Yes, they came with the acceptance or in January.
