Hi, i am an international student from India.
I donot go to an international school. I attend a private locally recognized school.
So, not more than 2-5 from thousands of students apply to colleges in the US from my school.
thus, i did not have proper guidance while taking the SAT or other tests. I did not even have books to prepare for the tests. But, i somehow improved my score by 120 points from the previous sitting using online practice questions and stuff.
How do i mention this in my application? Will it be recognised ??

Thank you for answering my previous question, it’s good to know that one essay does not have significantly more weight than the other.

Also, I understand that the app is now due on friday the 8th. Does this mean that it will be due at 11:59 PM on Friday or 11:59 PM on Thursday?

(this is the type of question one asks over an anonymous forum instead of an email to an adcom hahaha)

Hi

For an international applicant applying for financial aid at UChicago, would applying via Early Action give him or her any advantage in the need-sensitive admission process, as compared to someone who applies via Regular Decision?

Is financial aid for international applicant awarded on a rolling, first-come-first-serve basis?

Thank you.

axp2014, we are still in the process of downloading a lot of material from the Common App, so rest assured that this is not a problem on your son’s side. We will definitely let him know if anything remains missing once we have processed everything that has been sent to us.

vroom, you are welcome to let us know of this in the additional information section of the Common App, but it is not necessary to do so.

UChicagoAllDay, this means 11:59pm on Friday November 8th in your time zone.

wxjt, the timing of an international student seeking aid’s application does not impact our ability to award aid. We are able to award international aid to students in both our EA and RD rounds.

Hi. I have a question about test scores. I’m an IL resident who took the state test in April and sent my score. When/How can I verify that UChicago has it? Additionally, I took the test with writing in June (because another school requires writing) and did not send it to Uchicago. However, I did get a higher English subscore on the June test, which I put on the Commonapp because it asked for highest subscores. Do I need to send Chicago my June test as well, so it matches what I put on my commonapp? I would rather not spend the money to send it if I didn’t have to, but I don’t want to appear fraudulent.

Hi again, two questions actually:

1) I have an on campus interview scheduled. Will this help demonstrate interest/will this be considered to help my chances?

2) On Common App, I have everything filled out but I am still waiting for a teacher to submit a letter of rec. Can I submit the application now assuming that the teacher submits their letter before 11:59 on the eighth?

ironchariot, if you requested that UChicago be sent your score from your April test sitting, rest assured we have it. We will happily consider your higher June English score, but will need an official report from the test agency to confirm/consider the test score official.

UChicagoallday, your on campus interview report will be placed in your application file for our review when we read your application; however, because on-campus interviews are not required, it is not the act of having an on-campus interview, rather the content of the interview, that might be useful in our admissions process.

Please feel free to submit your common application before your teacher has submitted their recommendation; we will still be able to match the recommendation with your application even if it is sent after you submit.

Hi UChicago, I’m just curious: does the recent demolition of Pierce tower mean that you’re accepting less applicants this year? (I hope not!)

EnoughNerve: If UChicago answers, of course his answer will be much more worthwhile than mine. Nevertheless, I’ll venture a guess.

The demo and unavailability of Pierce has pressured housing. You see it in these CC threads with discussions and concerns about 3 to a room in South and undergraduates in I-House. I think things have settled out for this year, but UChicago is probably really hoping they don’t overshoot their target class this year. If I’m not mistaken, they overshot the last two classes due to higher than anticipated yield.

Having said this, my son is in I-House this fall and he’s enjoying his single and his House mates very much. He actually enjoys the walk / bike to the central quad and Logan, though we’ll see how he feels in January!
I-House could use more bike racks and storage, also.

Hi EnoughNerve, we have been able to re-house the students who would have lived in Pierce in the International House and by switching the New Graduate Residence Hall to undergraduate housing; these will remain open until the North Campus residence hall is completed. We expect we will have space for the same number of students this year as last year, since last year’s incoming class was also “Pierceless”. :)

Hoorah! I’m so glad to hear that, and the designs for North Campus look really cool.

@Uchicago, I have a last minute question. on the commonapp questions, “Share with us a few of your favorite books, poems, authors, films, plays, pieces of music, musicians, performers, paintings, artists, blogs, magazines, or newspapers. Feel free to touch on one, some, or all of the categories listed, or add a category of your own.”
I touched on a few stuff that I liked, but did not right a paragraph. I wrote everything in bullet form, just listing my items as such, “Favorite Magazine, Favorite Poem…” I did not know they wanted it in paragraph form until I looked to the right. So do I have to put the information into paragraph form or will it be ok to leave it as is?

Hi Uchicago, I sent my common application and supplement on Nov 8, but I’ve not yet received the instruction to create the UChicago account. And quite frankly I’M FREAKING OUT!!! Does this mean that my application has not been received? I’ve sent an e-mail but there is no response. I need to apply for finaid. What should I do?

Hi, I’m wondering if I haven’t gotten my login information after I submitted my common application, on 10/31/2013, who should i contact? Or should i wait a tad longer?

You should give time to let uChicago to process your files and get your information before to send you an account. Just set back. It does take time…

I’m one of those (lucky?) applicants who somehow received UChicago account information before submitting the Common App.
But as I did submit my application, nothing new appears on my UChicago account page.
I guess it’s all because things need time to come into place, especially around this time. :D

When does the account information get sent to us? It’s been over 48 hours since I submitted the common app and over 24 since I submitted the writing supplement

Hi again, I had a quick question about art supplements. Do the chairs of the arts departments view them, or the admissions officers?

@mermaidgirl I read somewhere (UChicago posts of previous years?) that if you don’t receive account information in a week, then you should contact the office. I don’t know if it’s still true this year, but one or two days shouldn’t be a problem.
And, did you check the “commonapp - assign recommenders” section? I think if your rec letters have been “downloaded” (like mine and some of my classmates’), then the AO should have them, ie they have at least received some stuff from you.

@EnoughNerve I have the same question. :D
