Hey, UChicago. I was wondering how to send additional info to the school (e.g., awards won since Nov 8). Also, how do you express interest in an alumni interview? Is it too late to interview for EA?

Thanks very much.

Hey, UChicago. I was wondering how to send additional info to the school (e.g., awards won since Nov 8). Also, how do you express interest in an alumni interview? Is it too late to interview for EA?

Thanks very much.

should we expect decisions to be tentatively scheduled to be released on the 15th or the 18th like last year?

renoverchat, the most appropriate way to update us of significant new achievements is by emailing your regional admissions officer. Unfortunately, our deadline by which to express interest in an alumni interview for EA has passed.

For early applicants, about when is the latest they will be notified of an alumni interview?

My son’s alumni interview was postponed until 11/22. Is there going to be enough time for the interviewer’s assessment to be read by admissions or have some final decisions already been made?

I had a quick question regarding my application. I submitted my application on November 1st, and I had thought that all my recommendations were in. My school uses Naviance, so there’s a slight disconnect between what the Common App says and what the system says. One of my other early action schools claimed they were missing a recommendation for me. I was wondering: if I haven’t heard anything, does that mean I’m in the clear? I checked the website that confirms submission for you guys, and it said I had my materials in. However, being the type-A person I am, I’m still worried. So, I was just hoping you could tell me: if I haven’t heard from the admissions office, should I assume my application is a-ok?

My father is a huge procrastinator and it is very hard to get him to get anything done. I’m trying to file the CSS Profile but he will not help me do it. When do I have to have this in before it will hurt me? I’m freaking out and slightly angry.

My account says that it’s still “Awaiting HS Transcript”. I know that it was sent electronically about two weeks ago, so should it be up soon?

I’m probably just being paranoid, but materials not received would have some sort of identifying mark next to them in my account, correct? All I see are green checks, so I’m assuming I’m good to go. Also, is the secondary school report a part of the HS transcript? It’s not showing up at all on the checklist, although it is mentioned above with the paragraphs about where and how to send missing material. Thanks.

dangerdmoney, if your materials are reflected as received with green checks in your UChicago account, we have received them-- no need to worry.

mermaidgirl, we will still be able to consider you for financial aid if you apply at any time during our admissions process. Our deadlines for aid-related material exist to give us the ability to evaluate students for aid in a timely fashion such that you might be able to have your financial aid package ready as the same time as your acceptance should you be admitted. If you do not meet our aid material deadlines, we remain able to offer you the same 100% of met need financial aid package-- you just may not have a financial aid package ready at the same time as a decision letter.

ironchariot, yes, received materials have green checks. The transcript and secondary school report are considered together; when we have them, a green check appears next to “transcript”. Any missing materials are reflected with red “X” marks.

hamington, we are having a bit of difficulty downloading some things from the Common App. If your account notes that we are missing your transcript, if you can, please have your counselor fax or email us a different copy just so we can make sure we have one.

Hello Grace!
I am an international student applying from the US. I am not a resident but I am a foreign exchange student here, which explains the reason why I am applying from the States.

I went through some difficulties settling in upon my arrival here, so I am applying late. Is it a disadvantage for an international student to apply close to the deadline? From your experience, are all of the spots generally full at this time, is there any chance for me?

I also wanted to know, do you put much importance to the type of classes taken into the senior year of high school and lack of AP classes? I am graduating from the school I am attending here in US, and I am taking a bunch of classes that are required for graduation, like US Government, World History, Fine Arts, etc. since I am lacking the credits required for graduation.
Anyways, I completed the previous 2 years of High School in my country and I had tons of math, physics and chemistry. My question is, how will I be able to prove it to you guy that these classes were indeed tough and that somehow they make up for my lack of AP classes? Will the fact that I came to America and took no AP classes but focused on my graduation and took those “easy classes” instead really hurt me? I’ve had sciences (math, physics, chemistry etc.) since 4th grade by the way, because that’s how my country’s educational system works…

I want to major in Computer Science by the way.

Another question, I know this is probably something that is overasked, but what do you really want to see in an essay? There are so many things that me (and I am sure that a lot of other kids) would want to express about their achievements in the essay, but would the admission people find this “bragging”? Also, is it true from what I’ve read online, that the staff from such universities would much rather receive original essay which might not even be related to academic achievements at all, as long as it’s original?

Thank you very much!

Hi Grace, so on my application I wrote that I’ve been cast in a pilot episode, but I just found out I got cast for the rest of the season, too. Is that something I should tell my regional director, or would that be too insignificant and just seem like trying to brag? I really don’t want to come off as narcissistic…

Hi Grace,

When are the EA results coming out?

Hi, Grace

I took the October ACT, and sent my results to U Chicago. My score was higher than my superscore, and obviously my best. I indicated on my Common App that I had another pending test that I did not yet know the score of. Can I be sure that U Chicago has received my score from this test? I got my score on time from ACT, so can I assume that the Admissions Office did, as well?

Wondering the same thing, Debater
I got my SAT score on time, and the college board says it sent it on the 19th, but my UChicago account only shows that they received the score I sent earlier. Does the account just not show that it received scores after the initial ones even if it did? Thanks for all you do, Grace.

w8w8holdon, lots of questions here! We make all of our final decisions in a group for EA and RD applicants, so there is no time by which space is “full” per se-- the timing of your application does not impact your ability to be admitted. We do encourage students to take advantage of the strongest rigor available to them in their area, but understand if moving schools as an exchange student has impacted your ability to do this, and will consider it alongside many other factors in your application. As for essays, we do hope to see something that is creative, makes use of our prompts, and is a good reflection of your ideas-- but you do not have to simply restate facts about yourself for the essay to be done well. I hope this helps!

enoughnerve, if you feel this represents a significant achievement for you, you are certainly welcome to let your regional admissions counselor know about your casting via email.

winsmid, we do not yet have a set date for EA decision release, but it will be sometime in mid-December. I will definitely post here once we know the date we will announce decisions.

debater and enoughnerve, if you received your score on time from the SAT or ACT and requested that it was sent to UChicago, no need to worry, we’ve received it.

Thanks for the help, Grace!

I cannot thank you enough.

Hi Grace! Thank you for all your help so far. Sorry about all the questions.

I was just wondering if it is too late to be contacted for an interview? I did check the box but I haven’t heard from an alumni in the area or about a phone interview. It’s something I’m eager to do. Thank you!
